If your home or neighborhood will soon undergo a Wildfire Risk Home Evaluation, the evaluation checklist can help you spot simple fixes before inspectors arrive.

You can look for the same things they’ll be checking: dry grasses and weeds, dry vegetation, ladder fuels, and combustible materials such as outdoor furniture, doormats, garbage bins, lumber, and organic mulch within 5 feet of the building.

A quick walk around your property now can help you know what’s necessary so you can get a jump on it.

Check the list. Take action early. Then review your Wildfire Risk Report and work through your prioritized tasks. Mark completed tasks as “resolved” in your report.

Feel good about what you accomplished!

Are you unsure if your property has had an evaluation? Do you want to request one? Check with your local fire department/district about requesting an evaluation and visit the Evaluation Program webpage to access possible past reports you may have: https://www.marinwildfire.org/dspace

🚒 Vegetation Fire Contained in the Marin Headlands

On June 14, Southern Marin Fire District crews responded to a vegetation fire near Bunker Road and Coastal Trail in the Marin Headlands. Through a coordinated multi-agency response, firefighters quickly stopped the fire's spread and successfully contained it to 2.57 acres. A total of 53 personnel and 8 fire apparatus were assigned to the incident.

We are grateful for the support of our partner agencies, including Marin County Fire Department, National Park Service, Central Marin Fire Department, Tiburon Fire Protection District, and California Highway Patrol.

Their teamwork and rapid response helped protect the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and surrounding communities.

As vegetation continues to dry, please stay vigilant and help prevent wildfires by reporting smoke or fire immediately.

Stay Cool. Stay Hydrated. Stay Prepared. ☀️

Hot weather can become dangerous quickly. Southern Marin Fire District encourages residents to drink plenty of water, stay in cool or shaded areas, check in on neighbors, and make sure your household has an emergency plan.

Never leave people or pets in a parked car. Even with the windows cracked, temperatures inside a vehicle can become deadly within minutes.
Plan ahead, stay aware, and take care of each other.
