Pursuing happiness sounds like work because it is work! I appreciate this notion of just BE-ing happy and creating the conditions for happiness to arise. A friend calls happiness the 'cat of emotions.' If you pursue a cat it will often (not always, but often) run and hide in the deepest darkest corners of the house. But if you chill out on the sofa and become a welcoming space for a cat to be, you might find the cat coming towards you. Meanwhile, without the folly of the chase, you've been able to direct your precious energy toward more creative endeavors.

One of the most empowering things we can do is put feet to our prayers and move forward despite the resistance or objections of others. Those objections are often a reflection of their fears, which is not your responsibility to manage.

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month I was moved to share my own experience with this dis-ease. If you or someone you know is putting off any of their medical exams, invite them to read this and take heed!
To be alive is one of the greatest privileges we have. It’s precious and grand and sometimes a huge pain in the ass, but it’s here and now and vivid and vital and worth fighting for.

This is not something I’ve shared with my broader community, but I am far enough away from my personal experience of Breast Cancer to say I’ve ‘graduated’ into the tribe of survivors. That is how my oncologist described it when I passed the fabled “Five-Year Mark” without any more signs....

In case you missed it, here is a link to the 60-minute interview I did last week with Linda Joy Myers for the National Association of Memoir Writers. She made me so comfortable I found myself sharing things about my writing process that I did not expect to reveal. If YOU have ever thought of writing your story for others, please know: If you have something you really need to say, there is likely someone out there who really needs to hear your story. Write on!

Happy to share this interview with Michael Shemwell (link) about how I found joy and equanimity after leaving my religion and being shunned. If you who have already read my memoir this interview may provide answers to the most common questions I receive from readers about where life finds me now. Happiness and a sense of belonging is a basic human right, our divine inheritance. Leaving my religion saved my life.

Thanks to Michael for all he does to uplift, educate and support people from high-mind control groups and cults. I wish I'd had a resource like his podcast when I was grappling with my choice way back when.

You can listen on the podcast app of your choice such as iTunes, Apple Podcasts, Google Play Music, Podbean, etc. You can also find the podcast on iHeartRadio, Spotify, Radio Public, Player.fm, Radio.com,, and Owltail.
