Everard on vacation, but art doesn’t take a day off 🌴

📍Catalina Island

The Catalina Casino gets its name from the Spanish term casino, meaning a “gathering place”.

Casino designed by Sumner Spaulding and Walter Webber in the Art Deco and Mediterranean Revival styles.

📍Getty Villa

The Getty Villa opened in 1974, built by J. Paul Getty to house his antiquities collection.

It’s modeled after the Villa dei Papiri, an ancient Roman country house in Herculaneum that was buried by Vesuvius in 79 AD.

Getty himself never actually saw the finished building — he died in 1976 without visiting it in person, even though it was designed around his own collection.

📍Getty Center

Odilon Redon: Otherworldly Visions (till October 18, 2026)

The Getty Center holds one of the finest collections of French decorative arts outside of France — Getty’s own obsession with 18th-century furniture.

Richard Meier designed the Getty Center using over a million pieces of Italian travertine, each panel chosen for the fossils embedded inside, so the walls themselves are basically ancient artifacts.
