We're closed today for Labor Day.

Our team has been in the heat all summer — running mosquito routes, pulling nests off soffits, crawling through spaces most people would rather not think about. They've earned a day with their families.

Fifty-six years in, the thing that has held is fairly simple: the work gets done by people who show up. Today they get the day off, and we're grateful for every one of them.

We'll be back Tuesday morning. If something comes up over the weekend, give us a call Tuesday and we'll get you taken care of — call before 1 PM and we can often get someone out the same day.

If it feels like the yellowjackets got meaner this month, you're not imagining it.

By early fall their colonies have peaked and their usual food sources are drying up. That's when they start showing up where people are — around trash cans, at tailgates, on the picnic table, in the soda can you set down five minutes ago.

They're also more defensive this time of year, and the nests are at their largest. Many are in the ground or inside a wall void, which means people find them by accident, usually with a mower or a footstep.
