Want to start a nonprofit? Let’s start with the basics.

A nonprofit can generate revenue. The question is how that revenue is generated, how it’s used, and whether it supports the organization’s mission.

Before you file anything, ask yourself:

• What is the mission?
• Who does it serve?
• Why does it need to be a nonprofit?
• How will it actually operate?

Because “nonprofit” is a structure, not a business plan.

Do your homework before you file the paperwork.

A little reminder for the business owner who’s tempted to lower their prices just to keep a client:

Being the cheapest doesn’t serve your business.

Your experience, expertise, time, and skill have value. You don’t have to make yourself cheaper because someone else can’t afford your price.

Sometimes the answer is simply, “I’m not the right fit for your budget.”

And that’s okay.

The offer that made sense six months ago might not make sense today. The price may need to change. The audience may change. Even the whole direction might change.

That’s not failure.

Marketing is getting the right people to understand:
1. Who you serve.
2. What problem you solve.
3. Why they should choose you.
4. And what they should do next.

You don’t need to go viral.
You need the person who sees your content to think:

I’m seeing more and more people looking for reliable transportation beyond Uber and Lyft—rides to work, the Amazon warehouse, school pickups, appointments, and everyday errands.

That tells me something:

There is a need. And where there’s a need, there’s an opportunity.
