It’s turtle 🐢 mating season here at Sorrenti Family Estate! As we border the Cherry Valley National Wildlife Refuge we often find incredible wildlife right in our backyard, and the painted turtle is one of them.

Painted turtles are one of Pennsylvania’s most common native turtles and can live for more than 30 years in the wild. During late spring and early summer, it’s common to see them traveling in search of mates or nesting sites.

Female painted turtles often leave the safety of the water to lay their eggs in sunny, sandy soil, sometimes crossing roads and surprising passersby along the way.

If you spot one on your travels, give it plenty of space and enjoy the glimpse into the amazing wildlife that calls the Poconos home.
