We are heartbroken to share this: As of September 1st, Spurwink River Health and Wellness is closing.
For three years, we poured everything we had into supporting survivors — raising tens of thousands for legal fees, housing, daycare, transportation, and more. We held space with free reiki, yoga, meditation, life coaching, and community events. We stood beside hundreds of women and children through some of the darkest, most dangerous moments of their lives.
And yet, today, we cannot keep going. We refuse to accept funding from any person ir org — government or nonprofit — that demands we compromise our values, harm others or silence survivors. That means no shortcuts, no selling out. And because of that, we are out of resources.
The truth is devastating: survivors are most at risk when they are leaving.
The court process is terrifying, and without support many return to abuse simply because they feel they have no choice or they even take their own lives if their partners don’t take it first. That’s why this work mattered so much. It kept people safe. It kept people alive.
We are so sorry we can’t continue. We are devastated. And we need you — all of you — to understand that showing up for survivors is not optional. It’s urgent.
