My latest 15’ St. Lawrence River Skiff just moved from the ceiling of my shop to the ceiling of on Congress street, go check it out. This one I liked so much I almost kept it for myself but I decided I should probably keep my boat collection to under 10…at least until we have a house.

Apparently this is one of the largest copper beech in Maine. There are so many beings in this world that transcend human timescales, it is incredibly important that we care for them well. Trees are the obvious examples- some individual trees that are alive now were alive when the pyramids were being built. But there are also bowhead whales and quahogs and Greenland sharks and science is yet to discover what else that grow to be ancient. Some of these individuals were are alive before the US was a country are still alive now- this should not be taken lightly.
Yes the copper beech is on a bit of a different level being an imported cultivated thing planted in a yard but none the less it was an honor to be able to take part in keeping it healthy.

I just finished this Sl Lawrence Skiff frame. In this boat and the 14.5’ one I’m working on now I’m experimenting with a more asymmetrical shape that mimics fish and birds that swim. I think it will work really well for solo boats because it will put the rower forward a bit and make it easier to counteract windage on the bow. (It also gives them a bit of an elvish look which is cool).

This one is a 13’ solo ultralight, the frame as is weighs 12.5 lbs, the finished boat will probably be 25-30 lbs.
