Our dry, dry winter has left lots of brown areas in lawns and we are getting calls asking about those areas. I had large completely brown areas in my yard, but with extra watering with good sprinklers, my brown areas are coming out of that winter damage and greening up, as you can see in the last couple photos. I have not put any extra water on the browned area in the first photo, and it is not green. I have been setting a sprinkler on the other brown areas daily for about 30 minutes for about 3 weeks and those areas are looking much better.

Hey everyone - we need your help! The Friends of the Nile Theatre is a (soon to be) nonprofit group that is working to keep the Nile Theatre open. We are in a transition period where the owners, Ward and Sara, still own and operate the theatre, but we are trying to help take some of the financial burden off them with volunteers running the actual movies. Right now, we really need volunteers!! We have some dedicated folks helping already but we need you. Attend our "Volunteer Kickoff" from 11 am-noon on Saturday, March 7 to learn more - or if you know you can help with concessions/box office one night a month, contact us through Facebook or at [email protected].
At the meeting, you can also sign up to help with fundraising, maintenance/cleaning, and programs (other than movies). We'll also be open to suggestions and ideas.

For the next few weeks, the forecast is for temperatures in the high 80's and 90's.
Most lawns will suffer in this heat, but cultural habits can help with heat stress.
If you haven't already, RAISE YOUR MOWING Height to 3 or 3 1/2 inches .
Don't water in the heat of the day if at all possible. That water in the heat, becomes hot water as soon as the sprinkler is off or moved.
Set underground sprinklers to run early morning. Zones with constant spray heads need 45 minutes per zone 3 times a week. Rotor/geardrive heads need 90 minutes 3 times a week.
If you aren't able to water this much, please know that lawn areas that brown out aren't dead. Bluegrass goes dormant to protect the plant when stressed and should green back up eventually when temperatures are cooler with good watering.
