Despite Jon Bon Jovi’s insistence in the 1986 song “Never Say Goodbye” to not say goodbye, sometimes we need to. As unfortunate as it may be, some relationships, trends, and styles have run their course, and it’s time to move on (I’m looking at you, mullets). Cologne and perfume department salespeople are some of the most persuasive folks on the planet. There was one time I found myself at the cologne counter of a well-known department store, and the salesperson had me try a scent. I didn’t like it, but she so convinced me my wife would that I agreed to take home a sample. I wore it through the front door and my wife immediately told me to shower to get the stench off because not only did it smell like Pepe Le Pew trying to entice Penelope, but it also wasn’t my style to begin with. The recently revealed 2028 Jaguar Type 01 is the automotive version of this; the company was so entranced with a new and exciting direction that it completely forgot its roots and the end result is something that should be washed off and flushed down the drain.
