Signup isn't really activation — and more onboarding emails won’t fix it.

Users become engaged through a meaningful relationship, when they feel valued, and when they stand to gain something of value.

So nurturing them through their onboarding IS critical. But it doesn't come from a Day 3 nudge via email.

When we reward retention behaviors, we shouldn't just ask if there was engagement — we should ask if there was more engagement than there WOULD HAVE BEEN if there had been no reward.

That difference matters if we're trying to build a growth lever that is effective at its job and has a strong positive ROI.

So, pick one behavior, set up a control group, measure LTV lift, subtract the realized reward cost, and then scale only that which has a positive ROI.

This protects your budget, brand, and customer relationship. (Incidentally, it's also easy to do with Promotion Vault.)

The cancellation save usually starts 30-45 days too late. By the time a member asks to cancel, we’re looking at the symptom of things that should have been addressed in the first few weeks.
