Twenty minutes deciding on a shirt for something that didn't even matter.

Zero minutes on the decision that actually does.

Closet's organized. Hangers face the same direction. Everything has a place.

None of that made the real decision easier. It just gave the mind somewhere smaller to go instead.

Not a discipline problem. Just what it looks like when one decision is carrying more weight than it should have to carry alone.

Rehearsed it in the shower again. Third time this week.

Same conversation, different ending every time. Still hasn't been said out loud.

That's not overthinking. That's the mind trying to build control somewhere, since there's none anywhere else right now.

Most people call this anxiety. It's closer to preparation with nowhere to land yet.

Not stuck from a lack of practice. Stuck because the room to actually say it hasn't shown up yet.

If something hard is happening right now.

A divorce. A move. A job that stopped feeling like it fit.
A version of herself that doesn't feel familiar anymore.

Lists got made. Friends got called. Journaling happened at midnight.

Even the space got reorganized, just in case that helped.

Same weight showed up the next morning anyway.

That's not a lack of effort. That's what it feels like to be in the middle of something real, before it has a name yet.

Nobody hands you a manual for this part.

Sound familiar?

Two people asked what's next this week. Got two different answers, both honest, neither complete.

One version sounded confident. The other sounded like someone still figuring it out in real time.

Both were true. Not inconsistency. Just what it actually looks like to be mid-decision instead of past it.

Nobody needs a finished answer to be taken seriously in the meantime.

Reminder popped up for a trip that isn't happening anymore.

Sat with the phone for a second before deleting it.

Small moment. Didn't feel small.

Some days it's not the big decisions that catch up. It's a calendar notification for a plan that used to mean something and doesn't anymore.

Clarity isn't a feeling. Clarity is a structure. Some days, deleting one notification is the whole structure available, and that still counts.

Missed the exit for the old house again. Didn't notice for two miles.

Hands still knew the turn before the mind caught up to why it doesn't apply anymore.

Not forgetting where home is now. Just a body running old directions while everything else moves at a different speed.

Give it time. The habit catches up to the change eventually. It usually lags behind on purpose, protecting from too much at once.

There was a season where everything was organized on the outside.

Every drawer. Every closet. Every system.

Falling apart on the inside was the truth underneath it.

Not because the house was messy.

Because life was in the middle of something that didn't have a name yet.

Waiting to feel ready took a long time. So did waiting to feel clear, to feel like herself again.

Here's what's clear now that wasn't then.

The spinning doesn't stop when the space gets cleaner.

It stops when you finally name the thing underneath it.

Quiet for a while, on purpose.

Back now. What happens here looks different going forward.

More on that soon.

Held it together in the meeting. Fell apart in the car.

Nodded at the right times, said the right things, walked out composed, made it to the parking lot.
Then the door closed, and none of it held anymore. That's not weakness, that's just the cost of the
day.

Composure isn't the same as calm. One is a performance, the other is what you actually feel
underneath it. The car is just where the performance ends.

If you've cried in a parking lot lately, you're not falling apart. You're just catching up.

Tell me the last time the car was where it finally caught up with you.

The mirror was fine. I wasn't.

Stood there one morning just staring at my own reflection like it needed an introduction. Same
face, same room, nothing about it felt familiar. That's not vanity, that's disorientation. When
your whole life shifts, the person in the mirror hasn't caught up yet. She's still adjusting to a
version of you that's already changed. Give her a minute. She's not confused, she's catching up.

If you've had a moment like that, you're not losing it. Tell me the last time your own reflection
felt unfamiliar.
