Finally planted my birthday pot with rosemary, then turned a little corner of the garden into a Mediterranean herb garden, completed with lavender, oregano and thyme🙂. Photobombed by Ziva💕.

This is George. He knows he looks fabulous against the cranberry hibiscus and graciously posed for this photo. He must have a very slow metabolism as he only lightly munches on whatever plant he is on (lubbers will eat ornamentals a little bit more enthusiastically, though). Did you know that his grasshopper ancestors appeared before the dinosaurs? All I know is that his calm, dignified presence is always welcome in my garden.

A breakfast scramble from the backyard that includes eggplant, Cubanelle pepper, scallions, Asian long beans (Chinese Red Noodle) and sweet potato leaves, basil, and of course backyard-fresh eggs (plus some olive oil and salt)😀.
Our Red Lady papaya from our newest tree made a sweet and colorful side. It’s the first I’ve harvested from this tree and when I cut it open yesterday I was surprised to see how red it was - definitely the redest papaya I’ve seen!

Contrasting the old with the new in the Kitchen Garden: a colorful, 2yr old Mexican tarragon bush (Tagetes lucinda), a slightly anise flavored herb in the marigold that makes a tasty substitute for basil in salads and such, along with newly planted kale seedlings. Ceramic turtle for my own amusement🙂.

July in the garden still providing us with eggplant, peppers, green onions, ginger, and Thai basil. And that means yummy Thai basil, soy sauce and garlic vegetables with baked marinated tofu, brown rice, and mango💕.

Some early July abundance from Spring planted ‘Sunset’ sweet banana peppers. The older peppers are ready to take a rest from the heat and humidity, but these young plants are holding up well💕

Picking these cuties for salad today. I can’t praise cubanelles enough! We still have three plants that were planted a year ago last March. By cutting them back a couple of times (and adding more compost), we’ve picked dozens from each plant so far. Even now in the heat and rain, these guys are still flowering and setting fruit💕.
