Vandersall Collective's Rae Angelo Tutera recently reimagined the serenity prayer in light of recent climate events. Please join us in praying together:
God of many names, grant us the serenity
to accept the things we cannot change,
like the color of the sky at sunset last night,
which, if you could forget everything you know,
was beautiful.
Grant us the courage to change the things we can;
mercifully, the list is long,
and it looks different for each of us.
May we have the strength to work through that list
as many times as we are called,
and may we remember that
we are also called upon to rest.
Grant us the wisdom to know the difference,
and may that wisdom protect us
from using the gift of our minds
tocatastrophize the catastrophes,
and from using the gift of our bodies
to shelter only our own families.
Grant us the peace of remembering:
Nothing can ever separate us from the love of God.
God is the sky above us, the ground below us,
the wind that carries both seeds and smoke,
and nothing, no sin against the natural and divine world,
can ever separate us from the love of
God the sky, God the ground, God the wind.
