Every time I look at Ray, I’m reminded that the future of the pet industry isn’t really about technology—it’s about deepening our understanding of the animals we share our lives with.

While AI, smart collars, and personalized nutrition are capturing much of the attention, they’re pointing to something much bigger.

We’re entering a new era—one where we move beyond simply managing animals to understanding them.

We’re moving...
→ from reactive care to predictive care.
→ from command and control to relationship-based care.
→ from generic products to personalized wellness.
→ from physical exercise to whole-animal wellbeing.
→ from simply managing behavior to understanding it.

To me, these aren’t just pet trends. They’re early signals of a broader shift in how we relate to living systems.

Fresh on the blog, I explore six emerging shifts I believe will shape the pet industry through 2027 and beyond.

Which shift do you think will have the biggest impact?

A few months ago, I was trying to reach the fraud department at my bank. Twenty minutes later, I was still trapped in a maze of automated menus, chatbots, and circular responses.

When I finally reached a human, the relief was instant. What made this circumstance remarkable wasn’t the maze of automated menus, but that I was on route to the fraud department! Yikes.

That experience left me with a thought.

Most conversations focus on what AI will replace.
Cognitive work. Administrative work. Creative work. The list goes on...

But what about the inverse of that: What becomes more valuable because AI exists?

As AI absorbs more cognitive work, I believe certain human capabilities will not only sustain their value but will become increasingly valuable - not because AI isn’t capable, but because much of the value comes from the fact that another human is involved.

The more interactions that become automated, the more valuable human interactions become.

The more intelligence becomes abundant, the more valuable wisdom becomes.

It’s the Human Premium in full force and it’s the signal we’re exploring this quarter inside Wolf.

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to lead in a world on fast forward.

Decisions arrive faster. They age quicker. Strategy cycles that once lasted years now crack in months.

The natural response is to consume more—more reports, more dashboards, more AI.

But information isn’t the constraint anymore.

Clarity is.

For the past 15+ years, I’ve had the privilege of helping Fortune 100 brands and senior leaders navigate uncertainty, uncover opportunity, and think more intentionally about the future.

Along the way, one question kept coming up:

How do we make strategic foresight more accessible—without sacrificing the depth of human judgment?

That question became Wolf.

A human-led, AI-powered foresight partner built for purpose-led leaders, strategists, and consultants who want to think further, challenge assumptions, and make better long-term decisions.

Said otherwise, a fractional futurist in your corner whenever you need one.

I’m opening a small founding cohort of purpose-led leaders to join us.

When people find out I’m a futurist, one of the first questions they ask is: “Can you predict the future?”

Not long ago, my niece and nephew asked a similar question in their own words: “Is the future already decided, or do we get to make it?”

Budding philosophers...

It’s a question I see leaders wrestle with every day.

When we’re overwhelmed by uncertainty, we can become reactive. But when we believe the future is already written, we surrender our agency.

I think the truth lies somewhere in between.

That’s why one of Futurkind’s core beliefs 👉 The future is a verb.

Every decision, investment, conversation, and action helps shape what comes next.

👉 What’s one action you’re taking today to create the future you want to see?

How will you manage your career in the back half of 2026?

It’s a year of recalibration.

AI is rewriting how we work with big tech capex at record highs. The infrastructure is being built - fast.
Layoffs are reshaping industries overnight.
Government and markets are volatile.

And the agent-to-agent economy is emerging — shifting power from individuals to systems in ways we’re only beginning to understand.

In this kind of landscape, power comes from two things — the ability to see further and to act faster.

That’s the essence of strategic foresight — making sense of change early enough to move with purpose when it counts. To turn uncertainty into advantage.

It’s been a busy start to the year for Futurist-in-50-Days, our futures thinking training program at Futurkind 🎉

Over the past few months we’ve had a number of leaders through the training including a consumer insights leadership team from the world leader in natural fragrances, flavors, and natural raw materials, a data analyst, a psychotherapist, and a multi-board global impact advisor.

Different industries. Different lenses. One shared commitment to thinking boldly about the future.

One of the founding goals of Futurist-in-50-Days was to attract more diversity to the space — on multiple levels. Seeing that come to life in our learner community makes this all the more meaningful.

Thank you to everyone who showed up fully. Celebrating all of you as you make waves in your industries 🌊

The future doesn’t wait for permission.

I’ve seen it play out in boardrooms and workshops time again. The moment leaders shift from asking “Can we?” to “What if…?”. Fear loosens its grip. Imagination ignites. Energy expands.

When I first left corporate 9 years ago to start my own consulting practice, I had no roadmap — only a belief that I didn’t need permission to begin. To pave an alternative path outside of the status quo. That leap became one of the most defining choices of my life.

And inspired our fifth core principle at Futurkind: The Permissionless Mindset — When we stop waiting for approval and start trusting our intuition, everything shifts. It’s not about acting recklessly. It’s about acting authentically — aligning courage with purpose, and creating from a place of trust.

Because the future won’t be built by those who wait. It will be built by those who begin.

And this isn’t just a philosophy - it’s a core training program Futurkind.

So...what are you beginning in 2026?
