Odd Jobber Aris

Odd Jobber Aris I do a lot of small moves, furniture assembly, clutter sorting, and random fix-its. Still wearing KN95 mask by default.

Doing all the things that could be DIY, when you don't actually want to do it yourself.

I'm going to drive my van down from Seattle to Portland Thu Oct 16th and return Nov 3rd, so if anyone needs anything transported between Seattle and Portland:
I'm thinking $35 for delivery of anything under 3-ft-cubed that doesn't require me going out of my way (I'm coming from Burien/south end of Seattle to the south- and central-east side of Portland).
+$15 for every half hr out of my way,
+$45/hr for any heavy lifting, (dis)assembly, or other complications.

Drywall repair really is a "trust the process" kind of process.

I'm still pretty forgetful about getting before and after photos, but I remembered to get a pretty full set of progress shots for the sectional sofa piece I fixed today!

If you're unfamiliar with the internal structure of furniture, these views may be confusing. The alt text, which I'll also put in the comments of each photo has a more thorough explanation of what they're showing.

I am back from Texas! I've been busy busy with organization jobs and little random home repairs.

Has your space gotten too chaotic to even figure out where to start? You can hire me to come help you get it going for $30/hr!

And if your little list of things to repair around the house is starting to bug you, reach out about home repairs for $40/hr.

Some things I've done lately include: tightening a faucet, fixing drawers that won't close, fixing a wobbly toilet paper holder (and the holes in the wall it had made), installing child proofing on windows, rehanging a closet rail system so that it's on studs instead of a bunch of failing drywall anchors, and more!

I need to update my scheduling tool, it appears to have stopped syncing with my calendar, but send me a message to enquire about availability, and I'll get you sorted :)

Fixed up a sad sectional today! It had lost one of its feet along with the part the foot attached to (would that be the sofa's ankle?) And had a couple cracked boards. I did my best to copy one of the more simple feet, installed a new ankle, and braced the cracked boards

I'm back to Odd Jobbing full time! The past 2+ years working with Chicken Soup Brigade were great, but I'm excited to be out there directly helping improve all my wonderful clients' lives more! And of course, returning to being my own boss and making my own schedule is refreshing too. I can take trips down to Portland, and perhaps even Texas to visit friends and family and work as I go, without leaving any co-workers suffering to fill my absence.

So please, feel free to reach out if you could use an extra hand around the house!

I am perhaps overly excited about this hardware organizer I bought from www.EnnovaTools.com !
The clips that hold each compartment into the case also can clip onto a belt or waistband when you're climbing ladders and stuff!

😅 I'm still bad about taking before and after pictures, but I did take some "here's what's messed up" pictures on today's job!
Client's sink was leaking because the pipe joints weren't holding together, so a quick trip to the store to get new slip joint washers and they can take that bucket out of the cabinet!

Roomie's canopy got bent out of shape, but fortunately I never threw away his previous canopy that had a more spectacular failure, so I used two arms from it to fix the current one. I've also been patching the tears in the fabric with scraps from the old one's cover!
Two challenges were:
1. the nuts and bolts were different sizes between the two, so I had to drill a couple holes bigger in the newer canopy to fit the old canopy's hardware (because the new canopy's plastic parts that hold the nuts didn't quite fit on the older braces). This was mostly an issue when I didn't realize they were different sizes and trying to get the first nut into the first bolt while trying to keep the thing from falling on my head and couldn't figure out why it kept turning freely...

2. A couple of the middle plastic pieces that hold the nuts were stripped out in the old canopy, so when I tried to remove the bolts the nut just turned freely too, so I wound up sawing off the plastic collar that holds the nut so I can get a wrench at it 👍🏻

Problem? Solved.
