I’m learning something important about AI:

We are much earlier than many of us think.

When you work with AI every day, it’s easy to assume everyone else understands the basics. They don’t.

Not builders.
Not executives.
Not entrepreneurs.
Not retirees.
And not necessarily people working inside technology.

There is still a significant gap between hearing about AI, using AI, and actually understanding how to apply it.

I was reminded of this recently when I had the opportunity to share one of my AI presentations with a group of builders, including [Remi Roy Osi](https://lnkd.in/gfcGYdtQ), founder of PodGround.io and creator of First Build Collective. Remi is building a learning and networking platform for independent podcasters and a community where first-time founders can talk candidly about what it takes to build.

What struck me wasn't how much people knew.

It was how valuable the simple things were.

What is AI?
What is AI mindset?
What can it actually do?
How do I talk to it?
Where does it fit into the work I already do?
How do I move from experimenting with ChatGPT to actually getting something accomplished?

It reinforced something I’ve been thinking about for a while:

AI adoption may have less to do with teaching people advanced AI and more to do with making AI simple enough for people to begin.

We don't need everyone to become an AI expert.

We need builders who know how to build with it.
Executives who know how to lead with it.
Entrepreneurs who know how to create value with it.
Retired professionals who realize decades of experience become incredibly powerful when paired with it.

Maybe the next phase of AI isn't about showing people how sophisticated the technology has become.

Maybe it's about meeting people exactly where they are and saying:

“Here. Start with this.”

That is increasingly where I believe some of the most important work is.

A client question can land like a gut punch: “Where’s the source for that stat?”

We see the hidden consequence with AI written thought leadership. It sounds confident. It reads like you. Then months later, the credibility gap shows up and you can’t explain it, because your notes were never connected to the words.

Try this weekly governance check before you post.
Before publishing, have your AI label each sentence as:
verified by me
verified by source
needs human review

Then post only the verified lanes. AI stays your new team, but your authority stays yours.

Speed feels good—until you can’t defend what you wrote.

We’ve seen it in proposals, client onboarding emails, and “research” summaries that sound confident but drift from what you actually know.

So we use an internal “Career Longevity AI Contract” checklist for women 50+:
What decisions you personally own.
What data boundaries you won’t cross.
Exact wording to stay defensible: “Here’s what I verified / here’s what I’m assuming.”
Then, once a month, we run a proof practice—AI scores whether your outputs stayed repeatably discerning.

AI is your new team. Your contract is how it helps you keep authority long-term.

Most leaders don’t struggle with KPIs.
They struggle with the “board packet” part—turning wins into purpose when you’re already carrying too much.

We use AI to generate a “Board-Ready Performance vs. Purpose” split:
(1) the measurable outcome
(2) the leadership trade-off you actually made
(3) one sentence on how it aligns with your values

Then we prompt you to pick ONE trade-off to protect next quarter.
Not ten.
Not all.
One.
