Athletes learn to trigger a feeling of success outside of competitions through smell and sound alone. For example, when some athletes are in a strong, powerful state during training, they smell scented oil and listen to a specific chosen song. They then repeat these steps before competitions to bring back those powerful memories. Connecting to these neural pathways can help trigger muscle memory, bringing forward a winning state of mind, and a body that follows with actions of a champion.
