Well…

Reporting back from the trenches of unlimited car snacks, sunscreen, backroads, spotty cell service, approximately 47 rounds of “are we there yet?”… and somehow spending an extra $38 at every gas station we stopped at.

Made it home last night, and I’m slowly remembering how real life works.

Also…

Apparently I leave for ONE WEEK and Seattle gets a famous raccoon named Jimothy.

I don’t even know how that’s possible, but I have questions.

Just popping back in to say hi before I start catching up on life.

So… what’d I miss while I was off wandering around? Fill me in. 👇🏻

I thought I was looking for friends.

What I was really searching for was belonging.

The kind that’s there on ordinary Tuesdays.

The kind that meets you for a morning hike, cries over tacos, celebrates your tiny wins, and never makes you feel like you’re “too much.”

I kept assuming a place like that already existed.

Surely someone had already created it.

I looked.

I couldn’t find it.

So I started inviting divorced women to hike with me.

Somewhere along the way, the meetups stopped being the point.

Women started finding each other.

Without realizing it, we had started building something so much bigger than hikes.

I realized I wasn’t creating hikes.

I was creating a place where women (and me) could exhale.

Where divorce wasn’t the thing everyone awkwardly avoided.

Where you could show up exactly as you were.

Eventually, that little hiking group became Divorce Warriors Club.

Not because I set out to build a business.

Because I couldn’t stop building the thing I needed most.

Maybe that’s why I never found what I was looking for.

It wasn’t waiting for me.

It was waiting for us.

If you’re still looking… don’t stop.

Accidentally spent the last week living instead of posting.

And ngl, part of me almost panicked because it’d been over a week — like I owed y’all some big comeback post to make up for it.

Spoiler alert: I don’t.

Because life looked like this…

Hikes that felt like therapy. Tide pools and tiny treasures. Playing tourist. Lake days that lasted longer than we planned. Sunset walks to the park with milkshakes. Museums.

And most days I had nothing left to give the internet because I’d already given it to my actual life.

So, hi. 👋

Still here. Still building this thing with you.

More soon.

🤍

Spent a lot of years thinking the goal was to become someone who needed nobody.

And to be fair, I did.

I learned how to survive.

I learned how to carry hard things.

I learned how to keep going when there wasn’t anyone coming to save me.

But somewhere along the way I realized being independent and being isolated aren’t the same thing.

Neither are being capable and being connected.

I don’t want to lose the woman who learned she could survive hard things.

I just don’t want her carrying every damn thing by herself anymore.

What’s something you’re realizing now that would’ve surprised you a year ago?

Divorce takes things. It’s just what it does.

The house.
The routine.
The future you thought you were building.

Pieces of who you thought you were.

So I needed something it couldn’t touch.

Something that had absolutely zero ties to my old life.

Nothing to split.
Nothing to negotiate.
Nothing my ex could have a damn opinion about.

So I started hiking alone.

Every Sunday the girls went to their dad’s.

And every Sunday I went to the mountains.

No experience.
No fancy gear.
No clue what I was doing.

Just a desperate need for something that was mine.

Out there, nobody needed anything from me.

I wasn’t mom.
I wasn’t fighting for custody.
I wasn’t navigating another hard conversation.
I wasn’t trying to survive another week.

I was just a girl on a trail trying to figure her s**t out.

And somewhere between the trees, the trails, and the alpine lakes, something shifted.

The mountains gave me proof.

Proof that I could trust myself.
Proof that I could do hard things.
Proof that there was still a version of me underneath all the heartbreak, fear, and exhaustion.

And honestly?

A huge part of why Divorce Warriors Club exists today started on those solo hikes.

Because every woman deserves to find the thing that reminds her who the hell she is.

What became your anchor during a hard season?

We’re told to stop talking about it.

Stop being sad.
Stop bringing it up.

But some of us needed to tell that story a thousand times before it stopped owning us.

Not to everyone… just to the ones who didn’t flinch.

The ones who let us say it again at 11pm.
Again on the bad anniversary.
Again for no reason at all.

Find those people.

The ones who don’t rush your healing.
The ones who don’t get tired of you.
The ones who stay.

Because healing isn’t moving on.

Sometimes it’s finally telling the story to someone who doesn’t walk away.

What’s a hill you’ll die on when it comes to healing after divorce?

You hear something enough times and eventually you just start believing it.

Mine was that people didn’t actually want me around.

I was too loud at dinner.

Too much in group chats.

The kind of friend people tolerated but didn’t really choose.

Which is funny, because hand me a complete stranger and within ten minutes I know about their divorce, their dog’s name, and the career they gave up on in 2009.

But when you’ve spent years being told you’re the problem, you stop arguing with it.

Then I got out.

And little by little, life started handing me different evidence.

Women inviting me places.

People reaching out first.

Friendships that didn’t feel like I was auditioning for them.

People sticking around.

And eventually I had to stop and ask myself:

Was I actually hard to love?

Or had I just spent years memorizing someone else’s fu**ed up review of me?

Your turn- what’s something you’ve had to unlearn about yourself?

🤍

For a while there, I told myself I didn’t need it.

I had my girls.

I had solo hiking.

I had a best friend (even if she did live hours away).

But then I’d be sitting at an alpine lake watching a group of women pass snacks and tell stories.

And I’d catch myself thinking:

S**t, I want that.

I remember trying all the things.

The Facebook divorce groups that felt more like grief circles.

The church groups where you’re praying it away (sorry, never really my thing).

Or the meetup events where it felt like everyone was looking for a date instead of a friend.

None of it felt like what I was looking for.

So eventually I stopped searching for it.

And started building the thing I wish I’d had back then.

Turns out I wasn’t the only one looking for it.

Curious…

Where have you meet your people?
