It is not often that we get a chance to advance a holistic approach to sustainable solutions. Thanks to the leadership of Governor Jay Inslee and Secretary of Transportation Roger Miller's focus on our state's people, our research underscored the unique skills and value that our maritime workers bring to the state economy. In addition to a clear strategy for reducing the ferry system’s carbon footprint, improving the system’s maintenance capacity and resilience, this plan presents a multipronged strategy to meeting the region’s growth.

Project news Washington State Ferries submitted the 2040 Long Range Plan to the Legislature on January 3, 2019. The Plan recommends short-, medium- and long-term actions for WSF to pursue and focuses on a set of investments and service enhancements to be implemented over 20 years.
