Caravel Marketing: The Next Chapter

After more than a decade of serving our clients and growing Caravel Marketing, we are shifting our focus entirely to the Sponsorship Marketing Association (SMA).

Our passion for the sponsorship marketing industry has led us to dedicate our time and energy to SMA, where we can continue to inspire and inform a thriving community of sponsorship marketers.

Through SMA, we’re excited to provide valuable learning and networking opportunities that empower sponsorship professionals to grow and succeed. We will continue to help organizations optimize sponsorship marketing and achieve their goals.

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible clients and partners who contributed to our success. We will always cherish the relationships and experiences we’ve shared.

"The women of today are the thoughts of their mothers and grandmothers, embodied and made alive." Matilda Joslyn Gage

This Women's History Month, I have spent time admiring the strong women in my life, from colleagues, mentors, neighbors, family members, including my mom, and close friends. They encounter barriers every day, but they are trailblazers and warriors. They are women who have persevered through obstacles and paved the way for young women like me.

I recently met my baby cousin, a precious little girl. When I looked at her and envisioned her future, I knew as a fellow woman, it is my duty to continue paving the way. The same way the women before me and the women before me did. I feel a responsibility to uplift the next generation of women, particularly women within the sponsorship, sports, and events industry. We must work together to continue building an industry where everyone knows they belong and where everyone can succeed.

I am grateful for the women (and men) who continue to advocate, challenge, and mentor me. Here at Caravel, a woman-owned business, I am proud to work alongside resilient women. Women with courageous backgrounds lay a firm foundation for the women of today, tomorrow, and the future. I am also proud to support the nation's first sponsorship association, founded by women. An intentionally curated team guides the Sponsorship Marketing Association and board, filled with strong women and men within the sponsorship industry.

We are thrilled to announce that Layne Werner has joined the Caravel crew as the Director of Client Services.

Layne’s success driving revenue, building meaningful relationships, creating successful sponsorships and leading teams in multiple major markets across the US in property, team and agency settings will be a tremendous asset to Caravel’s aggressive growth plans.

In her role at Caravel, she will lead our client relationships and delivery of services. She will also be part of the Business Development efforts.

Layne brings an impressive background in the sponsorship industry to Caravel, from her time as a General Manager at Learfield in several East Coast cities to working with the LA KISS Arena football team. Most recently, she was the General Sales Manager of LSU Sports Properties at Playfly Sports.

We are so excited to welcome Layne to our growing, dynamic team!

Does your family understand what you do?

While visiting family during the holidays, I told my mom I was attending a conference and giving a sponsorship presentation and, for the 100th time, she asked this question. “So, Paula, tell me again what sponsorship is and what you do.”

Keep in mind, I’ve been in sponsorship for more than 25 years, so this has come up a few times. 😉 I explained again that I help bring events and teams together (like Seafair, the Special Olympics and OL Reign) and companies (like Amazon, Coke, Starbucks) together to connect with audiences in a meaningful way.

I’m thinking this sounds like a PRETTY BIG DEAL. Mom just smiled and said, “That sounds nice, honey. Want some pie?”

Maybe next year. Has this happened to you? It makes me feel fortunate for every opportunity to connect with the sponsorship community and speak the same language.

Caravel is thrilled to welcome industry veteran Dave Whorton to the team! Dave Whorton brings decades of sports, marketing & sponsorship experience, and a proven track record for revenue growth to Caravel.

Whorton joins as the Director of Partnerships to support the sponsorship efforts for Caravel’s iconic clients, ranging from local entertainment properties to international sporting events. Whorton will focus on providing cutting-edge solutions, innovative ideas, and accelerating revenue growth for Caravel’s growing client portfolio.

We are excited to join the Lake Placid 2023 FISU World University Games team to host the largest collegiate winter sports competition in the world. We are leading the partnership efforts to connect global brands who share a passion for sports and a commitment to sustainability.

“Save Winter” is a sustainability movement to unite all of us who love winter and are committed to saving the season of snow. This is going to be epic!

Our team just returned from our first visit where we toured all the venues, including the world-class Mt. Van Hoevenburg sliding center featuring the skeleton, bobsled, luge, and practice push tracks (pictured here).
