The inception of Hauling with Heart. Seeing Humble by Design shut down was a dagger to my heart. I had to do something as it was an absolute lifeline. Furnishing the homes of those that have nothing. No money and no logistics to get it home. A majority being D/V victims, who escaped with a bag and their children. I hoped to scale the 1 home/month we were doing to that of 169 homes Humble be Design furnished over its 3 years of operation. Since getting a warehouse on March 1st, we are on track to fully furnish 175 or more homes our first year! Blazing at 3x the speed! I blindly went into this with no funding, and have somehow managed not to bankrupt my business so far. But I cannot slow it down. These people just want to live happy productive lives like everyone else. They just need a little help to get there. But they are in a pivotal moment. As helping right now will directly affect the trajectory of their lives.
Two recent stories:
D/V survivor and her daughters that has been in a nearly empty home for weeks, all sleeping on the floor. Mom was trying to pick up the piece and do what she can. Which unfortunately, was limited to proving food and some clothing. CPS was doing a follow up that afternoon. Potential separating the family that day, as the children were not in adequate living conditions for prolonged time. We sprang to action and fully furnished that home that morning, and kept that family together.
D/V survivor sleeping in empty unit, sleeping on two dog beds with her daughter. You could see the pain in her eyes and she was uneasy. She could not hold eye contact with me or shake my hand. I knew this ahead of time so I had a female team member with me for her. When we unveiled her home. Fully furnished, and even stocked the kitchen with food she was absolutely hysterical. It was like she didn't even know how to process this emotion that had been alien to her for so long. She had hope. Her legs gave out twice. She went right into my employees arms and she held her as she sobbed and sobbed.
Thank you all for the support so far. Hope to make hundreds more stories like this in the future.
