NNRG strengthens the ecological and economic vitality of Northwest forests and communities by connecting people with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to steward their land. For over 20 years, the Northwest Natural Resource Group (NNRG) has been leading efforts to make ecological forestry a paying proposition in the Pacific Northwest. Through the dedication of our board, staff, landow

ner members and numerous partners, a new economic model is now available to achieve sustainable forestry. Our Northwest Certified Forestry program provides a broad suite of economic, educational and informational benefits to small forest landowners and organizations in Washington and Oregon. Whether you're a forest landowner, a manufacturer, or a wood products user, NNRG's staff can help you access information and resources on a wide range of certification and forestry related issues.

Join us for a May 7th field tour to see restoration in action!

Meadows are an important ecotype of the Pacific Northwest, and they used to cover a significant portion of the Puget Sound. On this walking tour at the Magnuson Park Meadow with Green Seattle Partnership and NNRG, we will discuss histories of Salish Prairies, show a recent meadow project with a diverse flowering meadow of forbs and grasses, and discuss site restoration methods.

Join us on March 26th at 12:30pm for a lunchtime presentation and discussion on Northwest Seed Zones with Washington DNR Geneticist Jeff DeBell.

What seeds should we be planting? Choosing an appropriate seed source for planting projects has been a topic of discussion in the Pacific Northwest since the early 20th century. Different seed zone systems have been used over the decades to help guide these planting decisions. We’ll dig into some of those seed zone systems and cover the reasons for why they changed.

Our January Fireside Chat will focus on forest management for extreme weather events. Long stretches of heavy rain—like we recently experienced—can create serious challenges for forest owners, including increased landslide risk and forest roads that are vulnerable to failure. Join NNRG Forester, Matthew Schmidt, on January 21 for a discussion on the risks posed by extreme weather, and strategies to prepare for and respond to these events.

Grab your favorite cozy beverage, settle into a comfy chair, and join us as we explore what forest owners can do in the face of extreme weather. This chat will be fairly casual, and we encourage you to bring your questions!
