Today I want to celebrate the election of Rheba Knox to the seat of Mayor of the town of Franklin, Alabama. Franklin is a small town in an important region of the country, relative to slavery and civil rights, between Montgomery, Tuskegee, (my father's birthplace) and Auburn. Rheba has lived in Franklin since 2012 and she has been a member of the Franklin Town Council since 2014. Given her professional background as well as her B.A. in Political Science, M.Ed. in Counseling, and Juris Doctorate degree, all from Howard University, I know that Rheba will continue to serve the town well in this new role. Honoring you today cousin Rheba!

It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Avery Barnes, founder and curator of TASWIRA gallery, over the past two years. TASWIRA has been a powerful force in Seattle’s art community, dedicated to showcasing diverse contemporary voices, especially those of the African Diaspora. Over the past two and a half years, TASWIRA has established itself as a cultural hub where art and community intersect, inviting everyone to experience thought-provoking exhibitions that inspire conversation and connection.

TASWIRA’s grand reopening in December 2024 in Seattle’s historic Pioneer Square will marktheir renewed commitment to inclusivity and artistic exploration. As the gallery continues to evolve, it will continue to be a place where art, creativity, and cultural narratives are celebrated for all to enjoy. I’m honored to spotlight another of my incredible clients: WeRise Wines! 🍇✨

WeRise Wines is truly reshaping the wine industry by celebrating and elevating the voices of underrepresented winemakers. Their mission is to broaden market access for minority-owned wineries and foster a culture of inclusivity, creating a future where the industry reflects the diversity of the world.

At the heart of WeRise is the belief that wine is more than just a beverage—it’s a story, a craft, and a celebration of culture. By curating exquisite wines and sharing the stories behind each bottle, WeRise is empowering winemakers and building a welcoming, vibrant community where education and discovery thrive.

If you’re passionate about wine and inclusivity, I highly recommend exploring WeRise Wines—a brand dedicated to empowerment, unity, and truly remarkable wines! 🍷

I’m proud to support Community Gearbox and its founder Dante Garcia, who has built an inspiring and innovative platform aimed at leveraging sharing economy philosphies to transforming how communities access and share material goods. 🌿

What is Community Gearbox? It’s a groundbreaking app that allows individuals and groups to gather, share, co-own, and manage outdoor gear collectively. With this tool, communities can easily track, maintain, and borrow gear—moving beyond individual consumption and embracing a more sustainable, collective approach.

Why does this matter? Community Gearbox is addressing a core issue tied to the climate crisis: overconsumption. By encouraging gear sharing and co-ownership, they’re creating a circular economy that promotes collective abundance, where material well-being is shared rather than pursued individually.

Where are they based? Rooted in the Pacific Northwest, Community Gearbox currently serves communities in California, Oregon, and Washington, with plans to expand nationally and beyond.

If you’re passionate about the outdoors and sustainability, I encourage you to check out Community Gearbox! Interested in supporting or even joining the team? Send them a message.

Motley Brown Consulting is honored to support several small businesses through the Seattle Re:stored Program. Seattle Restored revitalizes Seattle neighborhoods by helping local artists and entrepreneurs activate empty storefronts. They secure long-term leases and receive business coaching.

One of the notable businesses MBC has been supporting is River, "an event venue with a crush on creatives." While the venue is available at full market rate to be booked by traditional events such as corporate retreats, workshops, weddings, and private parties, their main goal is to be a drop in the ripple effect of success for creatives by offering flexible, adaptable pricing to diverse groups for events. They have become an incubator of some of the freshest, cutting edge ideas and underground expressions of creativity in the city. They aim to continue centering their values in support of these communities (as well as BIPOC and nonprofit communities) by making the space accessible for those with lower incomes and organizational wealth. As the city recovers from the isolating effects of the pandemic, River is on a mission to revive Belltown once again with fun, engaging, and important events. Onward!!

I'm proud to serve on the Board of Directors of Technology Access Foundation (TAF). Last Thursday was our Infinite Futures Birthday Bash. Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed! - we raised a substantial amount of money in support of our programs. TAF creates transformative systems of learning for students and teachers of color to eliminate race-based disparities in our increasingly diverse society.

Special thank you to Growingboymedia for photographing the event.
