Today we had 3 firefighters graduate from Basic Operations Firefighter class hosted by the Illinois Fire Service Institute. This class was blended between online classroom and in person hands on training. These 3 individuals put in over 350 hours of class time for this class, on top of still coming to district events, going to work, and balancing family time as well. While they have graduated from class, their journey isn’t quite finished for complete certification. They have a 40 hour Hazmat Ops class they will be going through in the next couple of weeks. Once this is completed they will have a Basic Ops Firefighter and Advanced Technician Firefighter certifications through the Illinois State Fire Marshal office. Congratulations and thank you, Captain Skylar Benson, Firefighter/EMT Aidan Angsten and Firefighter Paige Angsten for dedicating so much time to this class over the past 18 weeks.

With gas prices on the rise and a focus on faster in-town response, the department will be transitioning our primary fleet to electric utility golf carts this season.

This change is part of a new initiative to go green, and we’re proud to partner with Ameren Illinois to support the move toward more efficient, electric-powered emergency response.

The new units allow for quicker deployment, easier navigation on local streets, and improved efficiency across all calls. Our engines will be phased out as the carts are fully implemented.

Each cart will be equipped for emergency response and fitted with lights and sirens.

We appreciate the community’s support as we roll out this change.
