The Spoon Shoppe came from the desire of Chad Lewis to make a new career in creating objects from fine woodworking and carving Interest began from making cigar box guitars for his own use. He discovered that making the guitars from wood was as fulfilling as the finished product itself. For a new woodworker on a budget hand tools were an obvious choice. A couple years of scouring antique shops and
second hand markets resulted in a fine collection of restored vintage tools. By that time working with hand tools had become Chad's preferred way of woodworking. Friends and family were showing an interest in his work and he began doing projects for others. Eventually an idea formed around creating a business to provide hand made products to customers who would appreciate them not just for what they were, but for how and why they were made. Why spoons? Because they are the perfect example of the idea behind The Spoon Shoppe. The spoon is an everyday object that doesn't have to be hand made or even have a pleasing form to be functional. But throughout history people have made utensils and tools beautiful as well as functional. The object's beauty adds to how much you enjoy using it and what you do with it. Not just a spoon anymore, it is an object that can be cherished for its form and now exists somewhere between a simple utensil and a luxury item. Being a spoon it's a small thing, to be sure, but still something that says not everything has to be done as cheaply as possible.
