20 Years of Service

Gary Burgess a Corporal with the Seminole Fire Department was recently recognized by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians for achieving 20 consecutive years of National EMS Certification and Accreditation. This distinction is an honor held by few EMS professionals.

To maintain his status as a Nationally Registered EMT, CPL Burgess completed, on a biennial basis, the most comprehensive recertification program for EMS professionals in America.

By maintaining his National EMS Certification and completing regular continuing education courses, CPL Burgess has demonstrated his commitment to providing exceptional prehospital emergency care.

CPL Burgess was Nationally Registered as an EMT in 2006 and has been serving the Seminole Community since 2021. Prior to this position CPL Burgess worked for a neighboring department as a Captain for many years and earned the rank of Assistant Chief before leaving and arriving at Seminole; all while maintaining his National Certification.

The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians serves as the National EMS Certification organization by providing a valid, uniform process to assess the knowledge and skills required for competent practice by EMS professionals throughout their careers and by maintaining a registry of certification status.

CPL Burgess is a 21 year veteran of both Fire and Emergency Medical Services. Burgess plans to continue serving the Citizens of Seminole and Seminole County for a few more years with retirement on the horizon. In his spare time CPL Burgess serves as a local Baseball Instructor to many of the youth in and around our community and sees both his profession and giving lessons as mutual callings to serve.

Join us as we congratulate CPL Burgess on this rare

🚫🔥 **Burn Ban in Effect – Seminole County** 🔥🚫

Seminole County is currently under a **burn ban** due to dry conditions and increased fire. We are asking everyone to do their part to help keep our community safe.

❗ **No outdoor burning allowed**, including:
• Trash burning
• Brush piles
• Campfires (unless in approved, controlled areas if permitted)

With high winds and dry vegetation, fires can spread quickly and become dangerous in a matter of minutes.

We will update the public as conditions change.

Today we’re proud to recognize Seminole Fire Department Captain Jason Hudson and Firefighter Conlan Decker for spending time at Wilson Elementary School reading to the kids in honor of Read Across America.

There’s nothing better than seeing our firefighters in the classroom, encouraging young students to read, learn, and dream big. Moments like this remind us that serving the community goes far beyond emergency calls — it’s about building relationships and investing in the next generation.

Thank you, Captain Hudson and Firefighter Decker, for representing the Seminole Fire Department with pride and for making a positive impact on the students at Wilson Elementary.
