(In my best Mrs Doubtfire voice) Helloooo everyone!!

I would like to share a special midwinters project with you.

You are already aware that when possible I like to support my local makers and craftsmen. We have often showcased projects made in collaboration with products made with lumber from my friends at the local sawmills - that’s you Joe Arnson , Ron Burgess, Crosswinds Sawmill and Willow hill respectivly.

This has been a very long journey to achieve the results I feel ready to put my brand and name on…. But we are finally here - and proud of the results and skills learned along the way.

I now offer custom awards plaques and luxury lifestyle items made from locally sourced lumber. The big deal is that I am now doing all the refinement in house -
From rough sawn lumber through glossy finished plaques, signs and furniture pieces to cigar and pipe accessories - making your ideas come to life.

So we aren’t just laser monkeys anymore…

What’s better than a Friday night in the Laser Lab??

Going to watch all the Cars at the racetrack!!!

A trailer load of goodies are on thier way to meet up with the DGR (David Gravel Racing) team….

Now that the gift has been given and received I can share. The story of a sentimental Christmas crafting.

This Christmas season we tried our hand at a new craft. New to us that is, for blacksmithing has roots deeper than a 40yo brunette with daddy issues…

Anyway, I digress -
The project inspiration came from a family heirloom passed from my wife’s Father Frank Vealencis…his camp fire poker- it was hand made and had seen more fires than a Branch Dividian..

It was entrusted to me by my wife and her siblings to care for and continue the customs of the multicolored flames of “Okichoby wood”(chunks of garden hose slipped around a copper pipe and tossed in the coals)

My son and I decided to try and recreate a version of this to give as a gift to each of Big Frank’s children…

The only problem was we had no forge, no steel and no idea where to start.
In the age old tradition of FAFO we jumped into the flames with both feet and tried not to get burnt…

I ran to the steel yard picked up several feet of square stock and fired up the acetylene torch and began banging and twisting like Chubby Checker!!

We heated and we bent, we beat, twisted and hammered our way out…Many colorful words and high fives later, What we created was a fire poker befitting a Vealencis- meaning one so stout and heavy that only the worthy can lift it!!!

I May have guessed a little bit large on the size of the stock. Lol.

This first run has set the standard and literally lit the fires in our Forges - me thinks there will be much more metal work coming in the near future….

Rainy days and Sundays - always get me down - Down into the Laser lab that is!!!

This weeks work is a corporate gift of water bottles to celebrate the sale of the company…
A bit tongue in cheek with the tombstone graphic and the old company logo…

Completing this project last night was symbol for me - and the sea faring subject reminds me of the spirit that made this country great - the Fire sh*tters…

There is immense satisfaction derived from harvesting, processing and utilizing products grown on your own land… sometimes all it takes is a bit of help and motivation from some friends… and Willow hill sawmill - big thank you for this super surprise delivery today- I can hardly wait to show you what it is going to become.
