Thank you RecycleCarver - Carver County Environmental Services and the City of Chanhassen, Environmental Commission for inviting Dem-Con to present at last week's event and share insights into the recycling process!

Last night, Environmental Academy participants got an inside look at the recycling process with a virtual tour of Dem-Con’s recycling facility!

Dem-Con walked us through how recyclables are sorted and processed, and then we chatted about the do’s and don’ts of recycling and waste management.

Thanks to everyone who joined us and to Dem-Con for helping us learn more about recycling right and avoiding common mistakes.

There are still two Environmental Academy sessions left this fall: Organics Recycling & Facility Tour of Dakota Prairie Composting on October 22 and Building Material Reuse & ReclaimIT on November 12.

The Environmental Academy is a free educational series presented by Carver County Environmental Services and the City of Chanhassen Environmental Commission. Anyone who lives or works in Carver County is welcome to attend.

🔥 It's Fire Prevention Week, and battery safety starts with you! At Dem-Con, keeping our employees, facilities, and communities safe is a top priority. Over the past week, our team has attended local fire department open houses to help spread the battery safety message and educate community members about proper battery disposal.

Lithium-ion batteries can cause dangerous fires when placed in recycling carts or trash bins. Batteries don't belong in your recycling or trash, so skip the bin and turn in your batteries for proper recycling.

Did you catch Dem-Con on KARE 11?

We were honored to be featured in a story highlighting the growing challenge of lithium-ion batteries in the waste and recycling industry. A single damaged battery can cause fires in homes, collection vehicles, and recycling facilities.

Skip the Bin! Turn Your Batteries In. 🔋

Batteries don't belong in your trash or recycling cart. Instead, bring them to your local household hazardous waste facility or designated battery collection site, where they can be handled safely.

Not sure where to take them? Find a battery collection location near you: https://batterynetwork.org/locator/

By taking this extra step, you're helping protect workers, facilities, and our community.

Thank you to KARE 11 for helping raise awareness about battery safety and proper disposal!

🍕 FACT OR FICTION: Pizza boxes aren't recyclable.

❌ FICTION!

Pizza boxes are recyclable, and that's good news because Americans use millions of them every day. Just make sure any leftover pizza, liners, or food scraps are removed before tossing the box in the recycling bin.

♻️ Recycle right and give those pizza boxes a second life!
