Iowa DOT Project Update 🚧

🚩 On Monday, April 6, the Iowa DOT's contractor (Owen Contracting) will begin construction at the intersection of Highway 57 (1st Street) and Union Road. Construction is expected to last approximately seven months.

🚩 Beginning as early as Monday, April 20, Union Road will be closed south of Highway 57, between Highway 57 and Wynnewood Drive. This closure is expected to remain in place for approximately six months. Throughout the duration of construction, Highway 57 and Union Road north of Highway 57 will remain open to traffic.

Help keep everyone on the road safer. Drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, you should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts. Starting Monday, May 19, 2025, the contractor will begin the reconstruction of Viking Road at the Intersection of Prairie Parkway. In order for the contractor to begin pavement removal, a full road closure will be required. Due to the scope of the work, the road closure will be in effect for approximately 18 to 20 weeks, depending on the weather and contractor staging. The planned work for this intersection includes removal of the existing pavement, installation of new storm sewer, new concrete roundabout with landscaping, and a raised earth median from Walmart Drive to the intersection of Prairie Parkway and Viking Road.

Business access will be maintained via the signed detour along Brandilynn Boulevard. The City will continue to provide updates as this project progresses.
