Street vending is allowed in Thurston County by applying for a mobile food unit (MFU) permit and asking for a variance. The variance allows the use of a temporary-style setup, i.e., using a pop-up shelter, insulated cooler, handwash station, and coolers with ice without being at a public event. Most stress in life comes from focusing on things we cannot control.

We worry about the past.
We worry about what others think.
We worry about outcomes that haven't happened yet.

But real progress starts when we shift our focus.

What we CAN control:
• Our thoughts and actions
• The goals we set
• The energy we invest
• The boundaries we create
• How we speak to ourselves
• How we respond to challenges

What we CANNOT control:
• The past
• The future
• Other people’s opinions
• Other people’s actions
• What happens around us
• The final outcome of every effort

The key is simple:

Control your effort.
Accept what you cannot control.

When we focus on what is within our control, we become calmer, more productive, and more resilient.

Focus your energy where it actually makes a difference.

Many people focus on being busy and working fast, but real performance comes from combining efficiency and effectiveness.

Think of it this way:

🔹 Efficiency = Doing things right🔹 Effectiveness = Doing the right things

When we combine them, four situations appear:

🟥 Poor PerformanceDoing the wrong things and doing them poorly.

🟨 Wasted EffortsWorking very efficiently… but on the wrong tasks.

🟨 Lost OpportunitiesWorking on the right things but with poor ex*****on.

🟩 Peak PerformanceDoing the right things and doing them well.

👉 Key Lesson:Before trying to work faster, make sure you're working on the right priorities.

Because doing the wrong thing faster is still the wrong thing.

Most waste in organizations is hiding in plain sight.

In Lean Manufacturing, the challenge isn’t that waste doesn’t exist — it’s that people stop noticing it.

Here are 5 simple ways to start identifying the 8 Lean wastes in your workplace:

👀 Go to the workplace
Observe the process where the work actually happens.

⏳ Look for waiting
If people, materials, or machines are idle, there is waste.

🚶 Watch movement
Excess walking, searching for tools, or unnecessary transport often signals inefficiency.

❓ Ask one powerful question
“Would the customer pay for this step?”

🗣 Listen to employees
Frontline workers usually know exactly where the problems are.

👉You can’t eliminate waste until you learn to see it.
