Martin County has been quietly making history since 1857, even before Minnesota officially became a state.

From the first pioneers who settled the prairie to the families who continue to farm this land today, Martin County has always been built on hard work, faith, resilience, and community.

A few things that make our county special:

🌽 We are one of Minnesota's agricultural powerhouses, producing corn, soybeans, pork, beef, dairy, and other crops and livestock that help feed our nation.

🌊 Fairmont, our county seat, is known as the "City of Lakes," with five beautiful interconnected lakes that have made our community a destination for recreation and tourism for generations.

🏛️ Our historic Martin County Courthouse is considered one of the most beautiful courthouses in Minnesota and stands as a symbol of the pride generations have taken in this county.

🇺🇸 Our people have answered the call to serve in every major American conflict, while generations of local businesses, churches, schools, volunteers, and civic organizations have made Martin County a place where neighbors still help neighbors.

🌾 More than anything, Martin County's greatest accomplishment isn't found in a single building or event. It's found in its people. For nearly 170 years, this county has been built by ordinary men and women who believed in working hard, raising families, helping one another, and leaving the community better than they found it.

The tie dye fundraiser for Healing Hearts Housing is today. Come out between noon and 3:00 today for a fun day with the family out of the rain. Walking tacos will also be served for a free will donation. There are sponsorships available so no one in the community has to be left behind.

'Anti-Weaponization Fund'

The Justice Department yesterday announced a $1.776B taxpayer-funded program to compensate individuals who claim the DOJ politically targeted them. The figure appears to be a nod to America's founding year. Payments would come from the Treasury's Judgment Fund, an uncapped account used to settle federal cases.

The "Anti-Weaponization Fund" is part of a settlement resolving President Donald Trump's $10B lawsuit against the IRS over the leak of his tax returns, along with civil claims tied to the Russia probe and the search of his Mar-a-Lago residence. Trump and his family will receive a formal apology but no monetary damages. The tax case stems from disclosures by a former IRS contractor who was sentenced to prison for leaking high-profile figures' tax data between 2018 and 2020.

A five-member commission, appointed by the attorney general and removable by Trump, will oversee claims through December 2028. The fund is modeled after an Obama-era program that compensated Native American farmers for discrimination in federal lending programs (see DOJ explanation).
