Only 18 more days until the new Diller Center has its Grand Opening! To continue off our countdown, we are highlighting PourMyBev from our recent SBDC post!
Our next spotlighted alum is Josh Goodman, founder of Pour My B**r PourMyBev, a self-pour beverage technology company that grew from one entrepreneur’s idea into an international business.
Josh came to Shippensburg University from Virginia on a football scholarship and became a four-year starter for the Red Raiders. His entrepreneurial journey also began taking shape during his college years. Josh took classes in business, marketing and speech communications. Those experiences, combined with the lessons he learned as a student-athlete, helped build the foundation for his future entrepreneurial career.
The idea that would eventually become PourMyB**r started with a simple problem.
While meeting friends at a crowded bar in Baltimore, Josh waited nearly 20 minutes to get a drink. He realized the frustration was not just a problem for customers. The business was also losing opportunities to make sales.
Josh saw an opportunity.
That night, he left his friends, went home and worked on a business plan until about 4 a.m.
The journey that followed was anything but easy. Josh experienced failed ideas, challenging partnerships, financial pressures, product issues and the realities of building a company from the ground up. But he continued learning, adapting and moving forward.
That perseverance helped transform his idea into PourMyB**r, technology that allows customers to pour their own b**r, w**e, cocktails and other beverages while helping hospitality businesses improve the customer experience and operate more efficiently.
Josh’s entrepreneurial journey eventually caught the attention of one of the world’s most recognizable companies. In 2020, Coca-Cola European Partners invested in the company, helping create new opportunities for international growth.
Josh’s connection to Shippensburg did not end at graduation. He returned to Ship to share his entrepreneurial journey with students, reconnect with his former football coach and speak with the football team. During his visit, Josh openly shared both the successes and setbacks of entrepreneurship and encouraged students to learn through experience, develop their ability to sell, build strong relationships and keep moving forward when things do not go according to plan.
His story is a powerful example of what America the Entrepreneurial celebrates: identifying problems, taking risks, learning from failure, creating solutions and turning ideas into opportunities.
