Million Bells... aka Calibrachoa or mini petunia. Still early to plant outdoors but watch for these in garden centers. They make great "basket fillers" and will quickly fill out if planted after the last frost. They like full sun and do need to be watered regularly - but pay back for the care with almost continuous blossoms through the summer. And yes - I am back into my love of the color pink!!

Paperbush - Edgeworthia chrysantha

It has been a mild winter here and these deciduous shrubs are already in bloom. Since it has cooled off a bit, the blooms are lasting a long time! (They can bloom from January to April here in the Pacific Northwest). They smell wonderful! In the Thymelaeaceae family, they are naturalized in Japan, Himalayas, and China and used for making paper. In China, they are also used for traditional medicine.

Every year this Rodgersia plant from the Saxifrage family amazes me!! It looks like it could have come from the dinosaur age! These are moisture loving deciduous, herbaceous perennial plants that can be grown on the edge of rain gardens/bogs. These plants get 3 to 5 feet tall with flower stalks in early summer that are pink or white, depending on variety. Easy care but the snails do enjoy the young growth!

EXPLORE THE VAST VARIETY OF FERNS
Low Maintenance, Drought Tolerant...

Clients are looking for this in plants for their PNW gardens! When we recommend plants, the first thing we do is look at the conditions in a garden space and think about what does well in nature. Over and over again, ferns often are one of the plants that are near the top of our list. Whether you want something evergreen or something that dies back in the winter (deciduous), something neat and stately or something frilly, or you have deep shade and can't get anything to grow - ferns come to mind.

We have a revised website coming, along with more photos and specific plant information. What kinds of things would you want to know? Or see more of? I think websites should change as businesses and information change - kind of a living, breathing thing!

I am not estimating a date for the new site to be up - since life has been making me stick to my New Year's resolutions. Most recently my phone became a brick for 4 days so email was the only way to reach us! We are mostly back up with a new phone, but if you contacted us and didn't hear back this past week, please try again!!

In the meantime, enjoy the beauty around us!!
