Someone at this factory, 110 years ago, thought “Yea, that’s good enough, nobody will notice that”.

And then along came me, to EXPOSE the scandal 😂

If you don’t see it at first, look at the second “R”

The full quote stamped on the plate reads “WORKMANSHIP AND MATERIALS FULLY WARRANTED”, so the fact that the mistake was on WARRANTED had me rolling. Too bad we’re 85 years past the warranty now.

All jokes aside though, it’s a rather lovely old piano.

After hearing for the ”millionth” time that a string couldn’t be replaced, I decided to prove that it is possible to replace in a difficult section of the piano. And yes, I HAVE had to do the hitch under the bass strings as well. Anyway, this was a fun edit, and hopefully educational and fun to watch.

November/December/January photo dump. Interesting finds, interesting pianos, and always interesting conversations. Along the way I find things worth sharing, but life has a way of distracting, so here’s to 2025 “maybe I’ll get it together someday, right”?

That will happen the same day my kids stop asking for snacks.

Quick tip of the day:

Hearing unusual noises coming from your piano? Turn off the ceiling fan first! In the right circumstances, the spinning of the blades can reflect the sound waves enough in the room to create the “Doppler effect”, and when combined with certain notes or chords can create some very unusual sounds.

Even in this room, where the fan itself was a full story up, it was contributing to some of the other issues found. Most issues are quite fixable, including those that just involve the flick of a switch.
