Hundreds—sometimes thousands—will show up for a firefighter’s funeral.
Dress uniforms. Apparatus lined for blocks. Pipes and drums. Bagpipers playing while we salute the loss of one of our own.

But when it comes to showing up for a fire conference, a class, training that might prevent the next funeral?
Much of the fire servce won’t show up.

The same people who will drop everything to honor the dead won’t carve out a few hours to invest in the living.

If we want fewer funerals, fewer families standing graveside, fewer names added to walls—we need to start showing up for the stuff that prevents the fireground LODD long before the honor guard ever gets the call.

Show up while your brothers and sisters are still alive.
