We are going to move ahead on having this year’s race on Saturday, October 16.

As discussed in our last committee meeting, there are too many questions regarding holding a safe, yet enjoyable, MWTR on Memorial Day weekend.

Pushing to the fall will give us some more assurance that things will be back to normal (or at least more back to normal) and avoid the summer heat.

We are also coordinating dates with Sierra Madre Search & Rescue, as they are celebrating their 70th anniversary on Saturday, October 23 with a gala fundraiser and tour of its facility. We will be able to promote that event with our participants the week prior.

We will open registration (on line only for now) on Saturday, August 14 for Sierra Madre residents only and Monday, August 16 for everyone else.

Dear 2020 Mt. Wilson Trail Race Runners and Followers:

Happy holidays to all of you.

First off, congratulations to all of you who have stuck with us and remained registered for the virtual MWTR this year. It is different, probably somewhat inconvenient, but you have helped us keep the wonderful MWTR tradition alive for another year. Your persistence and support are to be saluted!

There are about 120-125 of us going up on the trail between Monday, November 30 and Sunday, December 13. Here’s what we want you to do:

1. We want you to be safe on your race day. Pick a day and time when the trail will be less crowded, like early on a weekday.

2. On your race day, you are required to wear a mask, buff (more on this later!) or any item that you can use as a mask-type covering that does NOT include your shirt.

3. You must maintain six feet of social distancing at all times when on the trail.

4. Do NOT run in a group, but if you have a running or walking buddy who will stay sufficiently apart from you during your race, the two of you can look out for each other. Please be aware that there will probably be the normal hiking on the trail and that you must be respectful of the neighborhood surrounding the trail head.

5. Bring your own water up on the trail; we will not be able to have anyone to provide it.

6. Start from the special sign that Bob Spears has put up in Kersting Court.

7. Take selfies (with your mask on) at: 1) the START HERE sign, 2) First Water and 3) Orchard Camp. You will send those photos to Clarissa Lowe with the City of Sierra Madre ([email protected]) with your race time.

8. Keep and submit to Clarissa Lowe your time, via a reliable GPS app like Strava or Map My Run (both free) with your selfies after the race, providing your name and contact information.

9. Send Clarissa or me an email if you have any questions.

We will send out the results within a week of the end of the race window, recognizing the overall and age group winners and announcing the winner of the raffle for running shoes from Run With Us; all participants will be eligible for the raffle. And we will be in touch to give you information where you can pick up your special T-shirt and participant medal.

Special Mt. Wilson Trail Race Buffs Are Available!

For your training, the race itself or well after the race, please purchase some buffs we had specially made, thanks to our wonderful committee member Heidi Hartman. It sports the Masked Wilson artwork that committee member James Faulkner designed for the T-shirt and race medal. We are selling them for $8.00 apiece.

We have the buffs in three colors: royal blue, lavender and neon orange. You can call or text Heidi at 626-533-0724 or email her at [email protected]. She will make arrangements for you to pay for them and pick them up in a convenient location.

The buffs will also be available for sale at FIT BAR in Kersting Court from November 30 to December 13. Thanks, Madison Hopkins!

Good luck to all of you during the race! Cannot wait for all of us to be together in 2021!
