The Gila National Forest is partnering with the Small Business Administration and Procurement Technical Assistance Centers to help southwestern New Mexico contractors become eligible for opportunities to win federal government contracts and help job seekers learn about and apply for federal jobs. Together, they are hosting a day-long workshop at the Grant County Convention Center at 3031 US-180 in Silver City from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 12.

“There are dozens of job openings on the Gila National Forest, hundreds on public lands in the Southwestern Region, and thousands across the United States,” said Gila National Forest Supervisor, Camille Howes. “We have a lot of work to do and funding available to accomplish it. We need employees and contractors to help us get the work done, and we want to spend locally whenever possible.”

Staff will be available to answer questions and help applicants navigate usajobs.gov, learn about what kinds of jobs are available, develop resumes, and apply for jobs. Others will work with contractors to navigate and register with the System for Award Management, also known as sam.gov, so that they can bid on and win federal contracts. A block of government-rate rooms at the Murray Hotel is being held for participants – call the Murray at 575-856-9400 by March 31, 2023, and request the “Forest Service Block”.

The Gila National Forest is seeking contractors who can provide services such as heavy equipment operations, well drilling, vault and septic pumping, general contractors, roofing, plumbing, electrical, window installation, HVAC, logging, tree thinning, tree marking, tree planting, seeding (to include aerial seeding), auto repair, auto body repair, veterinarians, farriers, and anyone else who could do work for the U.S. Government. If you would like to learn about opportunities to increase your business through government contracts, please join us at the Grant County Convention Center at 3031 US-180 in Silver City from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 12. No pre-registration is necessary. For more information contact Maribeth Pecotte at 575-388-8211 or [email protected].
