New York State is profiting from the collapse of its own container recycling system.

For 17 years, redemption centers have been stuck with a 3.5¢ handling fee while wages, utilities, and operating costs have skyrocketed. During that same time, the state has taken in nearly $2 BILLION in unredeemed bottle deposits — and reinvested $0 back into the system.

Legislation to fix this has existed since 2017.

Centers warned this would happen.
Closures were documented.
Communities sounded the alarm.

Albany did nothing.

We’ve filed complaints with the Attorney General, Inspector General, and Comptroller.

The result? No action. Just excuses and blame-shifting.

Instead of addressing the crisis, the Governor arrests owners for demanding accountability.

This is out of control.
