Rethink Your Position

I am a social voyer. I scroll social media when I need to numb my mind or work through creative blocks. It has become my way of being inspired or effectively distracted to create. Over the last few years, watching the social media battles has left me with a few observations.

I. Most of the social media warriors are trauma dumping, not cause trumpeting. Carefully read what they are writing. The words are words of someone living in their pain, not speaking from the experiences of surviving battles. We are the sum of our experiences; however, some speak solely through pain rather than through lessons.

II. Some are not looking to convince or present evidence. They want total surrender to their views or total destruction for those who do not. There are so many who believe only those who believe as they do, act as they do, or speak as they do deserve to be well.

III. Others don’t have a position other than the one given to them. They repeat what they are told to believe instead of what they research and find to be true.

IV. There are those who are loud and wrong. Even after seeing evidence that contradicts their viewpoint, they double down and get louder.

V. A few seek real conversation. They look to share ideas. They ingest and digest new information, even information that contradicts their long-held stance. Those individuals take the information to test their beliefs.

They understand that not everyone will see things the way they do. They realize everyone has their standards. Standards are good. They provide the foundation upon which everything is built.

After watching all of this unfold over the past few years, I have a few questions.

* Have you noticed the same things?
* Have you taken time to reevaluate your position? What do you believe and why do you believe it?
* Have you considered that you may need to change your mind about what you believe?

I’m taking time as 2025 comes to an end to reevaluate my beliefs, stances, and how I view the world. I’m rebuilding the foundations of my life and my business. I’m evaluating my standards. Some standards are being strengthened while others are being redefined. I’m taking MJ’s advice, I’m starting with the person (man) in the mirror.
