"Military Saves Week” Promotes Financial Readiness Resources
Every year, military installations and organizations around the world join forces to motivate, support, and encourage servicemembers to save money, reduce debt, and build wealth. The Virgin Islands National Guard Family Assistance Center in conjunction with Employer Support Service and AARP Virgin Islands is hosting Military Saves Week. It is a week-long event to support a Department of Defense (DoD) initiative. This campaign is conducted in cooperation with the Consumer Federation of America, a DoD financial readiness nonprofit partner.
The V.I. National Guard is observing Military Saves Week (MSW). It is an opportunity for the military community to learn about financial resources. All military beneficiaries are invited to visit the VING and learn about federal and local resources. MSW is Feb. 22 to Feb. 27 at the Lieutenant Colonel Lionel A. Jackson Readiness Center on St. Croix and Feb 29 to Mar. 4 at the Sergeant First Class Leonard. B. Francis Readiness Center on St. Thomas. For details on the scheduled activities and times, call the VING Family Assistance Center at (340)712-8020 or 712-8023.
Military Saves encourages all servicemembers, their families and civilian employees to take the pledge to "Set a Goal. Make a Plan. Save Automatically." Military Saves Week focuses on the financial readiness of military members and their families to help them reduce debt and save their hard-earned money. During each weeklong observance, workshops will cover budgeting, retirement, taxes and other financial topics. Also, there will be one-on-one sessions, a popular feature from past MSW campaigns.
The Military Saves campaign encourages military families to save money every month. The purpose is to assist service members and their immediate family members in their efforts to build personal wealth through reducing debt and establishing savings goals. Studies indicate that military spouses play a vital role in maintaining financial discipline and stability within their families.
