Twenty Years of Grit, Grace & Growth

Entrepreneurship has been one of the most beautiful yet challenging walks of my life. Every season brings new lessons, new strength, and new levels of faith — but I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything.

As Beck & Call Professional Services prepares to celebrate 20 years in May 2026, it’s more than a milestone — it’s a grandstand of endurance, scaling, and sustaining through it all. Twenty years of showing up, building, and believing.

This week at the Goldman Sachs 10K Small Business Summit 2025, over 2,300 entrepreneurs gathered in D.C. — each of us walking the same road of resilience, growth, and passion. The energy, the speakers, and the shared connection reminded me why I love what I do.

Proud to represent a Woman-owned minority business that continues to grow, serve, and make impact across communities. And proud to be part of the Goldman Sachs 10KSB Network, an invaluable circle that fuels business growth and connection.

A magical Friday evening spent with my daughter at the Future Entrepreneurs of America gala — a beautiful benefit fundraiser supporting youth ages 9 to 17 with education, training, and resources to build their own businesses and step into their power as tomorrow’s leaders. I had an amazing time dancing the night away to an incredible live band, enjoying delicious food, and soaking in the vibrant energy of such a passionate, purpose-driven crowd. Everyone looked beautiful, the vibe was unmatched, and sharing this experience with my own up-and-coming young entrepreneur made it all the more special.

Yesterday’s Maryland Chamber of Commerce board meeting at Lockheed Martin HQ in Crystal City was nothing short of phenomenal! From flying the F-35 simulator to experiencing the innovation up close, it was a day to remember. Most importantly, I’m grateful to connect with fellow board members to discuss the progression of the Chamber and the future of Maryland business. Honored to be part of this incredible group!

Today, June 20, 2024 marks 20 years ago today I left my home state of New Jersey, my comfortable corporate position in midtown Manhattan (New York, New York) and embarked upon the unknown in Maryland.

I was beyond ready for a change in life and change of scenery. I was recruited by a European hospitality company that had one US location in Alexandria, VA. I went from working for and with large corporations such as GAF Materials Corp and AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals to a small US office with far fewer employees and support staff, but a new industry and a leader in what we now know today as Sous Vide style of cooking. I met a lot of super cool chefs and was afforded the opportunity to eat at some very exclusive restaurants as the chef’s guest at the chef’s table!

I embraced the change and the struggle to get used to my new way of life. I met new friends. Visited places I had only heard of and got used to eating seafood, a LOT of seafood.

Less than 24 months later, I was recruited by a leader in the Medcom industry to return to the industry of pharmaceuticals and biotech. I was very hesitant, but they made me an offer and bonuses I could not refuse. As I would drive home daily, the entrepreneur in me would look around and see many opportunities for additional passive income. I leaped at an opportunity to start a cleaning business considering there was new construction of apartments and office building going on almost at every square mile across the state. Well, the dynamic and ultimate salesperson I am (tooting my own horn), Beck and Call Professional Services was born May 2006 and we NEVER ever performed a domestic cleaning service to date. A chance encounter lead us to become a Master Contractor for a very well-known and popular chain of stores at that time. Remind me later to tell you how that happened. I promise you it’s a very inspiring story!

While I I set out to earn additional income while passing time. I built BCPS from my 2 bedroom apartment in Silver Spring, Maryland and we attained some very good clients and contracts that propelled us to new heights. Our service, professionalism, and reliability grew us to a multi-million dollar Facility Management business and we are still growing.

Though it is mind blowing how quickly 20 years have passed, I often still feel like just a visitor here as I still hold strongly to my New Jersey roots. However, Maryland has been and continue to be more than a blessing to me and my family that has grown a bit since moving here. I have 2 beautiful grandchildren that are now born and being raised in Maryland. This is their home and they proudly proclaim it!

I’ve served in many different capacities here in MD throughout my 20 years and I have been very proud to employ hundreds of members from various communities across the state, District of Columbia and Virginia. I’ve served on boards and provided mentorship for many new business owners and young professionals. I have recently embarked upon a new opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors for the Maryland Chamber of Commerce and I could not be more excited to utilize this role to continue to serve as an advocate for small business owners across the state and beyond.

These 20 years have flown and though I’m ready to slow it down a bit, I’m looking forward to what the next 20 will bring!
