I'm thrilled to have sat down last month with Jan Brito and Mike Schumacher to have a candid conversation about how real estate decisions and strategies change as we age.

In my work with clients, retirement planning for women often involves factors that traditional financial conversations don’t fully address.

Longer life expectancy, time spent caregiving, and career interruptions can all influence how retirement savings accumulate over time.

Even relatively short breaks from the workforce can create gaps in income, retirement contributions, and long-term compounding. Over the course of decades, those differences can meaningfully affect financial security later in life.

Women also frequently face the reality of planning for a longer retirement horizon.

Living longer means savings, investment strategy, healthcare planning, and income distribution must all be structured to support more years.

There's a 3.8% surtax on investment income that catches many high earners off guard — not because it's hidden, but because no one sat down and walked them through it.

If your modified adjusted gross income exceeds $200,000 as a single filer — or $250,000 filing jointly — your dividends, capital gains, rental income, and other investment earnings may be subject to the Net Investment Income Tax, on top of your regular rate.

For high-earning individuals — particularly those managing their own investments, running a business, or navigating a major financial transition — understanding which taxes apply to which income may open up meaningful planning conversations.
