The Irrational Fear of Hiring Older Workers (and Why It’s Holding Businesses Back)...

There’s a persistent bias in hiring that rarely gets challenged openly: the belief that younger workers are a better long-term investment than older ones. But when you look at the data — and the reality of today’s workforce — that assumption quickly falls apart.

𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝘇𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝘁 𝗔𝗹𝗹: 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗘𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀

In an era where brands are fighting harder than ever for attention, there’s one surprisingly common mistake that holds many organizations back: using the same post, the same image, and the same tone across every social channel.

At first glance, repurposing content feels efficient. But efficiency isn’t the same as impact. Each platform has its own “culture,” audience, and optimal formatting — and when your content doesn’t match the environment, it gets ignored.

𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗹𝘀, 𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀

𝘐𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮

Audience expectation: More visual, more informal, more personality-driven.

Best approach: Eye-catching imagery, concise captions, and a tone that feels more personal and conversational.

Tip: Vertical formats perform better — think 1080x1350. Authenticity wins over polish here.

𝘍𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬

Audience expectation: Typically a slightly older demographic, more likely to engage with longer explanations, community discussion, and shareable stories.

Best approach: Friendly, informative copy with images or video sized to avoid letterboxing.

Tip: This is a great platform for event promotion and storytelling that sparks conversation.

𝘓𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘦𝘥𝘐𝘯

Audience expectation: Professional, practical, value-driven.

Best approach: Clear messaging, purposeful images, and insights that demonstrate expertise — not sales pitches.

Tip: Think authority + clarity. Horizontal or square images tend to look cleaner in-feed.

𝘛𝘪𝘬𝘛𝘰𝘬

Audience expectation: Fast, fun, authentic, and often trend-driven.

Best approach: Short vertical videos tailored to relatable moments.

Tip: Over-produced content doesn’t perform well — real feels real.

𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗦𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿

Even the right content can fail if it’s formatted incorrectly.

If your image is cropped awkwardly… If your text gets cut off… If the layout looks sloppy…

Your message loses impact — and credibility.

Optimizing image dimensions, aspect ratios, and text layout shows intentionality and respect for the viewer’s experience. Small details signal professionalism.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲’𝘀 𝗧𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗶𝗰

Messaging that works for 18–25 year olds might feel out of touch to 45–60 year olds, and vice versa.

Before posting, ask:

Who is this content truly for?
What do they value?
What tone do they respond to?

Your message should meet the audience where they already are, not ask them to adapt to you.

𝗜𝗻 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁: 𝗧𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 = 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁

When companies take a channel-specific approach, they tend to see:

✅ Higher engagement

✅ Increased brand trust

✅ Better click-through and conversion rates

✅ Stronger relationships with their audience

Because it’s no longer “content blasting.” It’s communication.

𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁

Your brand might have one voice — but how you express that voice should shift depending on where you're speaking and who you're speaking to.

The brands that win today aren’t just present everywhere. They are relevant everywhere.

Stop Requiring Degrees for Sales Roles — You’re Limiting Your Talent Pool

It’s 2025, and yet far too many job listings still begin with the same outdated line: “Bachelor’s degree required.” When it comes to hiring for sales, that requirement is not just unnecessary — it’s counterproductive.

Well, that didn’t go quite as planned… or did it?

Some might argue that any publicity is good publicity (and Cracker Barrel certainly got plenty of it!). But the numbers tell another story — the stock is still sitting about 10% lower than it was a month ago.

Branding is powerful, especially when you’ve built a loyal customer base. In this case, the company clearly misread the room. Of course, they didn’t attempt a refresh without a reason — so what happens now with their updated restaurant concept?

Refreshing a brand and attracting new customers is never easy…give us a call or send us a message if you want help with your own project.

Cracker Barrel is bringing back its old logo featuring the "Old Timer" after President Trump called on the company to do so.

I think most of us in the US are familiar with Target—and many of you have probably seen the headlines about their recent struggles. The article linked below does a great job breaking it down.

What’s interesting for us as business owners is that—even though Target is a multi-billion-dollar giant selling to millions—the core lesson applies to every business, no matter what you sell or how big (or small) you are:
👉 Know your target market.
👉 Understand what truly drives them—price, convenience, niche focus, or relationships.

Then ask yourself:
Can this customer group sustain my business long-term?
Is their behavior changing?
Does my product/service reach different customer groups?
What are my competitors doing—and why?

There’s no single “right” model. Price, convenience, niche, relationships—each can work. But the danger comes when you try to be everything to everyone. Mixed signals are confusing. Pick a lane and commit.

Do a market analysis—formal or not. Just write it down and revisit it every three months. Markets are shifting faster than ever, so building this habit is essential. Even a simple SWOT analysis will get you asking the right questions.

And if you don’t have a partner to walk through this with—or just want an outside perspective—that’s exactly what consultants like us are here for.

Here’s the article if you’d like to dive in:

The news is out: Target has tapped Michael Fiddelke, its current COO and longtime company insider, to become CEO in 2026. Outgoing CEO Brian Cornell, who has led the company since 2014, will transition to executive chairman.

Thanks to Elmer Veith's leadership & his colleagues in the ESTA ANSI E1.2 task group, this truss standard ("Entertainment Technology - Design, Manufacture and Use of Aluminum Trusses and Towers"), that has been in place for over 25 years now, is currently up for update, review & public comment.

Please do us all a favor & if you work with truss give this latest revision a look over & give the task group your thoughts & comments. You do not have to be an ESTA member to comment. The more comments that are received the better the final document will be for us all so please share away!

You can find the proposed standard at the link below, along with instructions on how to comment, etc. You have until September 22nd 2025 to comment so don't say you weren't given time or never asked for your opinion! E1.2 is about half way down the list...

There are also a bunch of other standards currently up for review on that page, ranging from lighting to prop weapons (!) to general event safety, so regardless of your expertise you can most likely contribute & help make the entertainment industry a little bit safer!
