Bring on VIVA Magenta! Sounds like just what we need in 2023!

Pantone’s color for 2023 is “VIVA Magenta,” to reflect “an ‘unconventional time’ [that is] ‘animated’ and ‘pulsating with movement’. It’s a colour that is ‘audacious, full of wit, and inclusive of all,’ [that] really vibrates with vim and vigour, and demonstrates a new signal of strength, which is something we all need for a more optimistic future.”

Other companies are getting in on 2023’s trend of the “Magentaverse”.

“FOLKS” or “FOLX”?

Recently I saw the word “FOLX” in someone else’s writing. I did a double take, thinking it was a typo. But not so fast! I Googled this particular spelling and learned it was meant to be a more inclusive version of the word, like Latinx which goes beyond the male (Latino) and female (Latina). I found the following article that explained this and thought I’d share it.

I don’t know why I started using the word “folks” in my writing and speaking. It’s partly my style - I like to use folksy language. And, as a marketing consultant, I’m often recommending what we want our target audience (our “folks”) to do when they see our marketing pieces. I think I’ll use FOLX moving forward. Great reminder to use Evernote or a similar app to capture ideas, and then apply convergent and divergent thinking to create something new. I’m calendaring time each week to go through my Evernote notes and apply this.

Exercises in divergent thinking can improve mental connections between unexpected ideas, inspiring creative solutions and unlocking “aha” moments.
