Lot 94

This exquisite French hand‑made coin purse dates to the late Victorian–early Edwardian period and showcases the exceptional craftsmanship of early 20th‑century luxury accessories.

📅 Age & dating justification:
This purse is best dated to circa 1900–1915, supported by several clear and reliable indicators:
• Interior label reading “Made in France – Hand Made,” a marking frequently used on French export pieces in the early 1900s
• A combination of dense glass micro‑beadwork and silk embroidery, a labor‑intensive pairing most commonly seen at the turn of the century
• Flowing floral and botanical motifs reflecting Art Nouveau design influence
• Metal kiss‑lock frame with fine chain handle, consistent with early Edwardian construction

✨ Interesting & collectible details:
Unlike bead‑only purses produced later, this example features hand embroidery worked beneath and alongside the bead decoration, adding depth, texture, and softness to the design. Thousands of tiny glass beads are individually stitched over embroidered outlines in a refined palette of ivory, soft green, blush, and gold tones. The interior retains its original lining and mirror, further enhancing authenticity and desirability.

These purses were elegant yet practical accessories, intended for shopping, travel, and social occasions, and were often considered fashionable luxury items. Today, pieces combining both embroidery and beadwork are especially appealing to collectors due to their complexity and artistry.

A charming and timeless example of French decorative fashion from the Belle Époque, equally suited for display or collection.

Lot 81

A beautifully colored original French fashion plate from Les Toilettes Modèles, Paris, dating to the late 19th century, and closely tied to the golden age of Parisian couture.
📅 Age & dating (with justification):
This print dates to 1893, firmly established by multiple printed elements:
• The title “Les Toilettes Modèles – Paris”, a respected French fashion publication
• Reference to the Exposition Universelle de 1889 medals printed on the plate, used afterward as a mark of prestige
• Publisher credit L. Michau, Éditeur, 84 Rue de Richelieu, Paris, active during the late 1800s
• Plate numbering and period typography consistent with the early 1890s

👗 Purpose & historical interest:
Fashion plates like this were used by dressmakers, tailors, and fashionable households as visual guides to the latest Paris styles. They served as the fashion authority of their day—often more influential than written descriptions alone. This example illustrates detailed front‑ and back‑views of contemporary gowns, including puffed sleeves, structured bodices, and decorative trim, providing invaluable insight into late Victorian fashion design.

✨ Why collectors love these:
• Each plate was hand‑colored, making subtle variations unique
• Paris fashion prints directly influenced clothing worn across Europe and the United States
• Highly decorative and elegant for framing—perfect for libraries, dressing rooms, boutiques, or historic interiors

🖼️ Framed and display‑ready, this is a striking piece of fashion history and decorative art, ideal for collectors of antique prints, French décor, or Victorian fashion ephemera.

Meissen Porcelain Lace Figure Group - Late 1800s-Early 1900s
Part of the current online auction - A2ZAuctions-SC.com

A beautifully modeled Meissen porcelain group in the Rococo style, dating to the late 1800s–early 1900s, inspired by celebrated 18th‑century courtly subjects. This piece features true hand‑applied porcelain lace (Spitzenporzellan)—one of Meissen’s most technically demanding and admired decorative techniques.

🧵 Porcelain lace technique:
Real textile lace was individually arranged directly on the figures, then carefully saturated with liquid porcelain slip. During the high‑temperature firing, the original fabric burned away completely, leaving behind an intricate network of pure porcelain lace that permanently preserves the structure of the textile. Each ruffle and cuff was applied by hand, making every example unique.

🔍 Visual cues supporting a later date:
• Exceptionally clean, even glaze and firing consistency
• Lace that is slightly fuller and more structurally supported, typical of later Meissen production
• Highly refined, theatrical modeling consistent with Rococo revival taste
• Crisp underglaze blue crossed swords mark, as used during continued Meissen production into the late 19th century

The dynamic multi‑figure composition, delicate painted florals, pastel palette, and refined detailing reflect Meissen’s continued commitment to luxury porcelain for elite collectors during this period.

📏 Approx. height: just under 10 inches

🏛 Meissen, Germany – Europe’s first hard‑paste porcelain manufactory

📌 Condition note:
This piece presents very well overall. As expected with porcelain lace figures, lace losses may be present. Please review all photographs carefully and feel free to request additional images or condition details prior to purchase. ([email protected])

An impressive and decorative Meissen group that captures the elegance of 18th‑century design through the lens of later master craftsmanship.

🔍 Cameo Glass Button with Metal Shank – Late 19th to Early 20th Century 🔍
Part of current online auction - link found at A2ZAuctions-SC.com
Lot 140

This finely made cameo glass button features a raised white profile relief set against a translucent, multicolored glass ground with swirls of blue, yellow, and metallic inclusions. The softly sculpted cameo contrasts beautifully with the glossy glass surface beneath.

📅 Age & justification:
This button dates to the late Victorian–early Edwardian period (circa 1890–1910), supported by several key visual and construction elements:
• An original gold‑tone metal shank, mechanically set into the glass—typical of higher‑quality buttons from this period
• Hand‑worked glass with irregular internal bubbles and color movement, not modern uniform molding
• Applied cameo portrait relief, reflecting the era’s fascination with classical imagery and revival styles
• Decorative multicolored glass grounds commonly seen in turn‑of‑the‑century European and American art glass buttons

🧵 Additional details:
Cameo glass buttons were considered luxury accessories, often used on formal garments or collected as miniature works of art. The use of a metal shank rather than glass added durability and is frequently seen on fashion‑forward buttons produced between the 1890s and early 1900s. Each piece was individually made, making examples like this one unique.

📌 Suitable size for a decorative coat or dress button
📌 Metal shank appears intact and original

A desirable example for collectors of antique buttons, Victorian and Edwardian accessories, or miniature art glass, and equally appealing as a display object on its own.

✨ Hand‑Painted Enameled Glass Decanter Set – c. 1890–1910 ✨
Part of current online auction - link at A2ZAuctions-SC.com
Lot #136

Elegant Art Nouveau–period glass decanter set, consisting of a tall handled decanter with stopper and five matching cordial glasses, all finely hand‑painted with floral enamels and gold accents over a satin/frosted glass ground.

📅 Dating & justification:
This set comfortably dates to the late 19th to early 20th century, supported by several visual cues:
• Satin‑finished glass popular in the Art Nouveau era
• Flowing, organic floral motifs with gilded scrollwork
• Delicate hand‑applied enamel decoration with raised gold detailing
• Applied handle, folded rim, and blown glass stopper typical of turn‑of‑the‑century European or Bohemian production

Each glass is individually decorated, showing subtle variation consistent with true hand painting, not later decal work. The tall, slender forms and soft translucency were favored for liqueur and cordial services at the turn of the century.

📏 Decanter approx. 12 inches tall; glasses approx. 4 inches

🍷 A striking display or functional antique bar set

A refined and decorative survivor from the golden age of hand‑decorated glass—perfect for collectors of antique barware, Art Nouveau décor, or elegant table settings.
