Early 2021 a farmer about 100 miles west of me brought this barber chair in. It waited in line for over a year, then, took it completely apart.
Removed all the metal parts and took them to Omaha Plating, all parts, screws and bolts, to be plated in antique copper.
Took a year to get them back to me. Had to have a few pieces sent to a machine shop for repairs.
Took off all upholstered parts and took to my upholsterer. Ordered very high end unsplit black leather and 1000 copper head finish nails.
Took another year to get them back!
Stripped all the wood.
Scrubbed the oak pieces of the base multiple times to remove as much hydrologic fluid as possible from years of leaking from the cylinder.
Used a scuff pad on the wood to retain patina.
Then vinyl sealer for best adhesion on top of fluid spots.
Glazed with a raw umber, then two coats of pre-cat lacquer.
Rubed out with wool wax, reassembled, which took a couple days.
I've done some cool projects but this was high on the list of fun and rewarding saves.
