H.R. 1, the megabill enacted in July 2025, made changes to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), resulting in millions of people losing food assistance. In fact, SNAP participation numbers have fallen by more than 3.5 million people between July 2025 and February 2026, including a nearly 5.5% decline in Health + Nutrition First’s home state of South Dakota.

A research brief in the Journal of Nutrition Education and Behavior JNEB examines how efficient the Fresh Start Food is Medicine (FIM) + Food Literacy intervention is among rural, uninsured patients with type 2 diabetes. Among other results, they found the total food literacy scores improved throughout the group classes focused on food literacy.

A study interviewed 15 pregnant women enrolled in Season, a digital platform offering medically tailored meals and nutrition education to women during prenancy and postpartum. The interviews showed all 15 individuals to be satisfied or very satisfied with their overall experience stating they would recommend the platform to others.

“Overall, our findings align with previous research on digital nutrition applications for pregnant users, which highlight the importance of a credible, personalized, and multifunctional tool in supporting pregnancy nutrition, and that external factors such as lack of time significantly impact user engagement.”
