Today we are saddened by the passing of former Police Chief “Bob” Paudert.

Chief Paudert dedicated his life to public service and the protection of others. His leadership, courage, and commitment to the law enforcement profession left a lasting impact on those who had the privilege to serve alongside him and learn from his trainings.

We extend our deepest condolences to Chief Paudert’s family, friends, and all who knew and served with him. Please keep his loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest easy, Chief. Your watch has ended, but your legacy of service will never be forgotten.

3-Month-Old Infant Safely Recovered in Merrillville After Abduction Alert

A 3-month-old infant was safely recovered Tuesday afternoon in Merrillville after officers quickly located a vehicle connected to an abduction investigation out of Marshall County.

According to Merrillville Police Chief Kosta Nuses, at approximately 12:30 p.m., Central Dispatch was notified by Marshall County that a vehicle associated with the abduction had been detected in the Merrillville area by a Flock License Plate Reader.

Merrillville Police officers immediately responded and quickly located the suspect vehicle. Officers safely recovered the infant, who was found unharmed.

An adult female suspect was taken into custody without incident and is being held pending further investigation by the appropriate investigating agency.

Chief Nuses credited the successful outcome to the rapid sharing of information between agencies and the swift response by officers.

“Outstanding cooperation between law enforcement agencies led to the rapid sharing of information and a swift officer response, giving us the best possible outcome,” Nuses said. “We commend the professionalism and dedication of all officers and dispatch personnel involved in this successful response.”
