📢 Registration is still open for the Science Communication Workshop 2026: K-12 Engagement in Pierre, July 27–29!

If you've been considering participating but are concerned about the time commitment, here's some good news: the workshop schedule is designed to accommodate travel. Sessions begin at 1:00 PM on Monday, July 27, and conclude by 2:00 PM on Wednesday, July 29, allowing participants to travel Monday morning and return home Wednesday afternoon.

This interactive science communication fellowship is ideal for faculty, researchers, and STEM professionals who want to connect their work with K-12 classrooms. Participants will collaborate with educators, learn effective science communication strategies, and develop engaging activities that inspire the next generation of scientists and innovators.

The Industrial Biotech Innovation Challenge is seeking breakthrough solutions that can move bioindustrial technologies from the lab to real-world deployment. From scalable biomanufacturing and synthetic biology to sustainable feedstocks and industrial integration, this challenge is designed to accelerate technologies that strengthen the U.S. bioeconomy.

Selected finalists will pitch their innovations to investors, industry leaders, and government stakeholders and compete for $50,000 in non-dilutive prize funding.

Yesterday morning, South Dakota Biotech had the pleasure of gathering with entrepreneurs, innovators, and ecosystem partners at Startup Sioux Falls for their Biotech Builders event.

Events like this are a reminder that biotech growth does not happen in isolation. It takes founders, researchers, investors, service providers, educators, economic developers, and community partners working together to turn ideas into impact.
We are especially grateful to our members and ecosystem partners who showed up, shared their perspectives, and continue helping build momentum for South Dakota’s bioscience sector. Your collaboration strengthens the connections that help companies grow, talent stay engaged, and innovation move forward.

AGES: Students entering grades 6–8 in fall 2026
TIME: 8:30 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.
LOCATION: University Welcome Center, Augustana University

In partnership with Verizon™, STEM Next has launched a new set of online Learning Journeys to help afterschool educators more easily implement relevant, high-quality STEM learning in their programs.

Afterschool programs that choose to complete the Learning Journey focused on nature and sustainability may also be eligible for a stipend of up to $1,500.

Programs that complete the five-lesson Nature & Sustainability Learning Journey will be eligible for a stipend of $500 to $1,500 based on the number of young people engaged.

Eligible programs can earn up to $1,500 for implementing the Nature & Sustainability Learning Journey with youth.
